Settlements Negotiator Position
We are looking for a motivated Settlements negotiator to join our Settlements Department.
The applicant's primary responsibility will be negotiating settlement amounts with external creditors. You will coordinate efforts with the team and attorneys to bring matters to efficient and successful outcomes, including evaluating new credit requests, ensuring timely payments of settlements amounts, maintaining the client files, providing administrative support, and effective negotiation of reduced settlements for clients on outstanding debt.
Duties of Settlements negotiator
- Conduct due diligence (e.g online research, insurance verification, and court record searches) to assist with collections and preservation of lien rights.
- Evaluating new credit requests.
- Negotiating payment plans.
- Managing the collection of all settlement letters.
- Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate across disciplines and departments.
- Contact clients to support them, explain the Settlements process to ensure understanding and a smooth workflow, and attend to client queries regarding settlement of accounts
- Communicate with the finance department for any payment requests and inquiries.
- Populate and maintain settlement information on the system.
- Maintain applicable stats sheets to ensure accuracy and prepare statements and reports for submission.
- Preparation of payments via the system before submission to finance for processing.
- Follow-ups after payments have been made to ensure system accuracy of client payment information (proof of payments and settlement dates).
- Clear and concise communication with clients throughout the settlements process adhering to all departmental process rules and SLA’s.
- Communication with the legal department to instruct debt review/judgment-related matters and follow-ups therein.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Requirements
- Three (3) years’ experience within a credit controller space, settlements within the debt collection environment which should be inclusive of direct experience in negotiation.
- Good judgment, discretion, maturity, professionalism, and razor-sharp attention to detail.
- Skilled at identifying and summarizing red flags/key risks.
- Fluent in English and other South African languages.
- Working knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment **(Intermediate**

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Principles and practices of customer service.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Time management.
- Ability to comply with rules, regulations, laws, and methods as related to POPIA and NCR.
- Work independently in the absence of immediate supervision.
- Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
