Phlebotomist - Apheresis

WCBS is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to collect, process and distribute blood and blood products of the highest standards in the Western Cape.

**Job Description**:
Ø Assessing donor veins for suitability for phlebotomy

Ø Performing phlebotomies on suitable donors

Ø Liaison with laboratories and blood banks regarding product requirements and haematology/virology results

Ø Labelling of packs and donor documentation

Ø Setting up of apheresis machines prior to donation

Ø Transporting samples and products to laboratories and processing departments

Ø Telephonic recruitment of donors

Ø Donor hosting responsibilities including greeting donors, performing Hemocue® measurements, assisting with queries, providing refreshments and booking Uber trips

Ø Administrative support including Lean documentation and data collection

Ø Maintenance of machines and other equipment

Ø Ordering stock

**A combination of the following skills, knowledge and attributes is required**:
Ø Good interpersonal skills

Ø Have a friendly disposition and willingness to “go the extra mile”

Ø Punctuality is essential as the clinic operates strictly from 07h00—15h00

Ø Attention to detail is paramount as product safety is the priority

Ø Accuracy in data collection and strong data analysis skills

Ø Must be able to work as part of a team, self-Motivated, hardworking, flexible and conscientious

Ø Skilled in customer services and the ability to deal with the public

Minimum Requirements
- Matric Certificate
- Medical/Phlebotomy Technician Qualification in Blood Transfusion
- Registered with HPCSA;
- Computer literate
- Strong Excel skills
- An unendorsed code 08 driver’s license
- Reliable transport
