**Responsible for the administration of SQL databases**:

- Install, configure and administer SQL server in clustered and standalone environments.
- Create SQL backup and restores and do standard checks as per checklist.
- Proactively monitor systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints.
- Attend to calls logged as per the schedule/system implemented by the team leader.
- Notify business units of possible problems immediately that may prevent or delay work and inform them of estimated hours or estimated completion dates for assigned tasks.
- Interact with developers.
- Create, Modify and configure SQL Reports
- Create, Modify and configure SQL Integration packages
- Create and configure SQL Databases
- Configure and maintain security of SQL servers, databases, SSIS packages and SSRS reports
- Document and implement SQL standards and operational procedures.
- Document all changes and enhancements.
- Document and improve existing processes.
- Comply with all policies and procedures

**Installation of new software**:

- Test new software before it is moved into a production environment.

**Configuration of hardware and software**:

- Works closely with the team leader to perform software installations, and to configure hardware and software so that it functions optimally with the SQL DBMS.

**Security administration**:

- Monitor and administer SQL DBMS security.
- Implement disaster recovery for SQL databases.
- Responsible for adding and removing users, administering quotas, auditing, and checking for security problems
- Standards and best practices
- Identify and promote best practice in existing areas.
- Stay abreast of the current thinking around best practice and participate in industry forums.
- Set best practices and standards for software engineering for structured data in the Group.
- Ensure the adoption of frameworks, standards and procedures

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Matric and degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
- Or Certification, for example the Microsoft Database Administrator Certificate.
- Recognition of skills through industry certifications, includes: Microsoft Certified DBA or similar experience
- Microsoft Certified DBA or similar experience
- 2 years of proven experience in MS SQL Database Administration. SQL 2012 and higher preferable
- SQL Integration Services experience an advantage
- SQL Reporting Services experience an advantage
- Basic Experience in SQL management and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Windows environments
- Two years’ experience in the Insurance/Financial industry, preferred.
