Department University of Venda -> Vice Chancellor and Principal -> Deputy Vice Chancellor: Teaching and Learning -> School of Environmental Sciences -> Geography and Geo-Information Science Job Title Senior Lecturer Post Level Senior Lecturer Job Type Academic - Univen Funded Closing Date 9/1/2026 Job Requirements Job Requirements - A Doctoral degree (PhD) in Geography and Environmental Sciences. - A minimum of five years’ teaching experience at a tertiary institution, or at least seven years of professional experience in a related field. - A proven academic record with at least five publications in accredited, peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, or full book publications. **Duties**: - Contribute to the teaching and assessment of undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses, using both formative and summative methods, in collaboration with faculty members. - Assist in the development and delivery of course materials under the mentorship of senior academic staff. - Support the evaluation of student work, including assignments, examinations, and projects, and provide constructive feedback to enhance learning outcomes. - Maintain regular consultation hours to address student queries and provide academic support. - Participate in training workshops and seminars aimed at improving teaching methodologies and instructional practices. - Engage in research activities within the department, including fieldwork, data collection, data analysis, and literature reviews. - Contribute to the preparation and dissemination of research findings through academic publications and conference presentations. - Work closely with a faculty mentor to receive guidance and support for ongoing academic and professional development. - Take part in university-led professional development initiatives, such as workshops on academic writing, grant proposal development, project management, and career planning. - Collaboratively develop a career progression plan, outlining both short-term and long-term academic goals. - Participate in departmental governance, including meetings, committees, and institutional events, to gain insight into administrative processes. - Support outreach and public engagement efforts, including delivering public lectures, conducting school visits, and facilitating environmental education programmes. - Maintain active involvement in professional organizations, contributing to peer review processes, attending academic conferences, and building professional networks.
