**Functions**:
Proactively engages with companies to create a business environment conducive to growth and expansion in KZN. Conduct outreach visits and maintain ongoing relationships with area businesses. Assists with completion of economic development expansion and retention deals

**Business Development**
- Executes initiatives and activities to facilitate local business attraction, expansion,
and retention, including incentive awareness, conducting business evaluations/surveys, and providing general economic development assistance.
- Performs economic development and support work to broaden the City's retail,
commercial, and industrial base.
- Works closely with the KZN Provincial Government to support and promote the Province to various business clients.
- Prepares reports on economic development and redevelopment activities for advisory boards, and City Council;
- Staffs or serves as City liaison to citizen committees, non-profit organizations, special interest groups, and neighbourhood groups concerning economic development issues and problems; makes presentations to these groups as assigned.
- Plans and staffs economic and development events and programs.
- Responds to requests for information from business prospects, and assists
potential new business in site selection; coordinates key activities to facilitate the
location process.
- Influences and builds relationships with prospects, consultants, company decision
makers, and media information sources; solicits development proposals from
private development companies; establishes and strengthens relationships with
local businesses.

**Marketing**
- Designs a variety of promotional/marketing materials for the purposes of business attraction and retention; prepares marketing materials and sends to target
industries and businesses.
- Makes marketing presentations, conducts tours; meets with new and existing
business representatives; responds to businesses interested in relocating or
expanding in the City.
- Assists with web site development and updates. Responsible for the creation and distribution of electronic marketing campaigns designed to support
business development, and business retention.
- Integrates effective marketing and outreach programs and activities with business
development; communicates with local businesses to identify business needs and
issues facing local enterprises, including barriers to growth; identifies and
implements services
- Plans, schedules and coordinates special events.
- Writes articles, fliers and other publications; updates, designs, and edits a variety
of printed material including brochures, community profiles and other promotional / marketing materials.

**Minimum and Preferred Entrance Qualifications Education and Experience**
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, economic development, marketing, urban planning or a related field.
- At least three (5) years of progressively responsible experience in economic development, marketing, business attraction, community development, planning
or a related field.
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
- Registered with professional bodies for example EDASA

- Design marketing materials
- Produce completed staff work using Adobe Creative Suite, Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and Outlook at an intermediate skill level
- Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
