**University Counselor Job Description**

**Reports to: Upper School Principal**

**Scope of Work**:The university counselor’s role is to help students achieve academic, personal/social and career successes as they move from High School to post-high school life.

**Specific Responsibilities**:
**Primary Functions**
- Monitor and advise students and their parents as to progress toward promotion/graduation.
- Prepare students for the transition to the next level of high school and post high school activities.

**Academic Development**
- Meet with students prior to and during the registration process, inform the students of classes relative to course selection and assist the administration in the registration and scheduling process.
- Conduct orientation meetings with all eighth-grade students to provide information regarding class offerings and registration procedures.
- Systematically develop and evaluate planning for high school and post high school on an annual basis through individual planning which results in a written career/educational plan for each student.
- Advise students regarding the accuracy and completeness of records and credits and perform periodic credit checks from grades nine through 12 with an emphasis on the senior year.
- Provide information to students needing to attend online/summer programs to make up credit deficiencies.
- Facilitate and assist with students registering, enrolling, and completing online courses to meet graduation requirements.
- Assist new, transfer and foreign exchange students in enrollment, registration, class selection, grades in progress and the transfer of credits.
- Conduct a screening of cumulative records and/or parent/guardian/student interviews of all students new to the school.
- Evaluate credits from outside sources.
- Be available for parent conferences in conjunction with the regular school-wide conference.

**University & Career Development**
- Direct students to provide them with sources of vocational/technical, career, college, military information and work.
- Maintain a library of catalogs, pamphlets and directories from colleges, universities, and technical schools. This information shall include forms, scholarship information, financial aid information, military services information and occupational briefs.
- Direct students to MaiaLearning (or other appropriate Internet sites) that will allow students to conduct their own interest inventories and secure information about an array of vocational, career and post high school experiences.
- Coordinate the College Fair and all university/college visits.
- Meet with all college admissions representatives who visit our campus and facilitate meetings between college representatives and our students. The College Counselor also serves as a liaison with College admissions offices throughout the year.
- Compile an annual Profile of the School.
- Working with the admissions office to maintain records on seniors, including GPA's and transcripts.
- Write an official school recommendation for each senior. The College Counselor also completes all School Report and mid-year report forms requested by colleges, including evaluations of students.
- Keep abreast of issues and trends in college admission, higher education, and testing.
- Remain up-to-date about specific colleges and maintain membership in professional organizations: the College Board, the National Association of College Admission Counselors, UCAS, etc.

**Testing and University Entrance Examinations**
- Coordinate the testing program at the high school and compile and disseminate test results to appropriate personnel, students and parents/guardians.
- Coordinate SAT at the five international testing dates and serve as lead facilitator
- Liaison with external SAT-prep provider (currently Higher Ground Learning) to coordinate training session(s) with students
- Coordinate the PSAT (grade 9) and the PSAT/NMSQT (grades 10-11) testing and serve as lead facilitator
- Interpret tests, student data and other assessment results appropriately in the counseling environment
- Maintain and disseminate information about standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, and TOEFL, helping to administer AP and PSAT exams, serving as PSAT Coordinator, and working with the Learning Support Coordinator to arrange accommodations on these tests, as warranted.

**Other**
- Potentially teach in the upper school in an area of expertise (as appropriate)

**Requirements**:

- A Master's degree (or equivalent);
- Background and experience working with students aged 14-18 years old.

**Workload and Salary**

The position requires the person to work ten additional days, to be agreed in collaboration with the upper school principal and head of
