**Job Description**:
**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Responsible to assist and support the SGS Bateman Site Construction & Commissioning Manager in all aspects of Health, Safety and the Environment on the project to ensure compliance with SGS Bateman, Client, Legal and Industry Best Practice requirements with the objective of preventing all SHE incidents/accidents.

**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
- ** Planning / Pre-Site Establishment Phase**:

- Access all relevant SHE Project specific documentation and familiarise himself with the Client’s and Bateman Policies, standards and procedures.
- Familiarise himself with the Project Team, the design requirements of the project, the appropriate drawings and other project related relevant information e.g. Project schedule, resources and project constraints.
- Give input into the design and SHE specifications as required.
- Ensure that all resources for site have been identified and is available for site. e.g. First-aid boxes, Documentation, Signage, PPE, Fire Protection Equipment etc.
- ** Implementation / Pre-Site Construction Start-up Phase**:

- Ensure that all persons entering the site for project purposes have undergone both medical clearance and site-specific induction with appropriate records.
- Ensure that all equipment brought onto site has been inspected and deemed safe for use.
- Ensure that all people operating mobile equipment are competent to operate such equipment.
- Provide all requested information to the clients SHE / Project Representative. e.g. risk assessments and completed equipment safety check lists.
- Analyse Contractor risk assessments and provide input to the contractor regarding suitability, improvements, additions etc. and communicate it accordingly.
- Ensure that all risk assessments for the specific work has been developed and approved/ accepted by the Client and Bateman.
- Ensure that the necessary legal appointments have been done and are in place.
- Ensure that a reliable SHE Administrative system is set up.
- Complete the Bateman start-up checklists and ensure that the contractor’s start-up checklists have been completed and forwarded to the relevant personnel.
- Ensure that the Bateman SHE signage has been put up in strategic locations.
- Ensure that the site offices have the necessary fire prevention equipment and signage is in place.
- Have a copy of all the relevant SHE legislation on site.
- Notify the appropriate government authority of the construction work should it be necessary and ensure other contractors have done so as well should it be required.
- Review Training requirements and appoint the necessary Bateman Supervisory Personnel including First-aider/s, H&S Reps and Fire Marshals.
- Acquire the services of a reputable general practitioner in the area for IOD cases as well as emergency treatment and hospitals services.
- Ensure that the appropriate compensation documentation is available should the need arise both for Bateman and the contractors.
- Ensure that there is a sufficient supply of PPE for Bateman & Contractor visitors on site.
- Ensure that proper and sufficient separately identified waste receptacles are located around the project site area and waste is disposed of in accordance with local legislation.
- Develop, in conjunction with the contractor SHE officers or supervisors and the client’s representative, an emergency evacuation procedure to be used on the project site area.
- All electrical installations are approved and certified as safe for use (CoC).
- That all appropriate welfare facilities have been supplied and maintained and are in place by both Bateman and the Contractors.
- Ensure that an effective traffic plan is developed for the project area.
- Ensure that an effective access security control system is in place
- **Implementation & Measurement/ Construction Phase**:

- Ensure that all the applicable SHE requirements mentioned in the pre-construction phase are maintained throughout the project.
- Monitor all new employees coming on site to ensure that the proper medicals, if applicable and inductions have been done. (keep records of new inductions done per month)
