About the position

Responsible for identifying and executing projects, by:
Identifying opportunities to improve, replace or remove equipment, systems, or processes
Executing of projects, managing of contractors and adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and legal requirements.
Implementing and improving the current preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Grade 12
Trade test completed as a fitter (Red Seal)
Higher Certificate (At least 5 years employed as Technician) or
National Diploma (At least 4 years employed as Technician) or
B-Tech (At least 3 years employed as Technician)
At least 3 years’ experience as a Technician in a Chemical Manufacturing plant
Experience on problem solving of pump related problems (crucial)
Experience in Condition based monitoring (advantageous)

POSITION PURPOSE

Day to day maintenance:
Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance in a specific portion of the larger Mechanical maintenance team.
A Works coordinator with a team of Fitters and Handyman will report into this position.
The implementation and improvement of Preventative and Predictive maintenance strategies will be one of the key objectives of this role.
Review of maintenance schedules, analysing failure modes and implementing corrective and long-term solutions.
Preventative and Predictive maintenance to ensure optimal plant availability
Make use of condition-based monitoring techniques to identify and prevent breakdowns
Root cause analysis of breakdowns.
Close out improvement actions and give feedback to stakeholders.
Spares management.
Reduce redundant spars in store and identify additional critical spares to be added to the inventory.
Schedule reviews to ensure we are complying with industry and OEM specifications with regards to specification and intervals.
Visually manage critical focus areas to ensure team alignment.
Participate in planning meetings to encourage team alignment and correct focus
Budgets:
Management of the maintenance budget for this section of the team will be the responsibility of this position.
Deviations from the approved budget should be reported and mitigated.
Manage the budget for the specific area of responsibility
Assess the top financial losses in terms of the area of responsibility and mitigate
Standards & Legal Compliance:
Implement and comply with all relevant legal requirements and standards.
Identify gaps where specific standards or training is required.
Projects:
Identifying and executing of projects
Track progress of projects, cost and changes to scope.
Generate progress reports and communicate to all stakeholders
Management of external contractors
Follow the MOC procedure when required
Participate in Hazop studies
Safety:
Report and mitigate any unsafe condition, unsafe act and incidents
Formally close out any incident actions assigned to this role
Perform risk-based inspections
Assist Works Co-ordinators to generate and improve Works Instructions
Ensure compliance to all legal and safety requirement as specified by the OHS act and other standards and procedures
People:
Ensure that all the required training records are in place
Enable to the team to perform their functions through support and problem solving
Find a good balance in the team by enforcing discipline, but also through encouragement and motivation.
World Class Manufacturing:
Drive a culture of World Class Manufacturing within the maintenance department to ensure sustainable production with reliable available equipment
