The Associate Consultant will form part of the Land team’s senior management and support a rapidly growing team of environmental professionals focused on contaminated land assessment and remediation projects. The incumbent should have strong leadership and project management skills and a proven track record of working in the downstream Oil & Gas retail sector. They must communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, regulators, and sub-contractors. Sound knowledge of risk-based approaches to sustainable environmental management and relevant South African environmental legislation is essential.

While the team is engaged primarily in a downstream Oil & Gas sector client programme, the opportunity will also exist for the Associate Consultant to grow SLR’s service offering and participate in a diverse range of other projects within the mining, waste, infrastructure, and industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Act as the regional team lead (KwaZulu-Natal) for the Land Quality and Remediation team based in our Kloof office.
- Coordinate project delivery in the KwaZulu-Natal region by providing oversight and technical input into all facets of contaminated site projects.
- Review technical reports are written by more junior staff to ensure the client’s objectives are met and the report is technically sound. It complies with SLR’s Quality Management System.
- Drive staff compliance with team administrative procedures and processes, including collecting KPI data.
- Ensure the team’s alignment with specific Key client Programme’s technical approach and drive overall Programme efficiency.
- Act as the Project Manager for large and/or complex projects.
- Contribute to business development activities by supporting management with preparing proposals, leveraging your existing client contacts, and building on existing client relationships. For example, the Associate Consult may be asked to act as a focal point for one of SLR’s Key Clients.
Provide mentorship to staff in line with their career development plans.
- Assist with the recruitment of new staff by identifying and attracting talent into the business.
- To show a keen interest in their personal development and learning within the technical discipline.
