Category Manager: Paints and Anti-corrosion Products

Our client is a ship supplier company, with core business in Africa. Since 1959, they have been developing an African network with their subsidiaries (Gabon, Congo, Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, and Namibia) and their partners. Their teams can achieve all requests for vessels operating in the area, with reactivity and reliability.
The company has created a position for a Category Manager Paints & Anti-corrosion products for the Africa zone.
**Duties**:
**Customers**:
- Increase turnover and improve margins for paints and anti-corrosion products department
- Develop the portfolio of current customers and prospect new ones. Develop new markets and ranges
- Meet customers’ needs and offer suitable products while optimizing margins
- Monitor anti-corrosion business as a whole and report to the Business Unit manager
- Lead the sales teams based in our African subsidiaries. Provide the technical expertise they need. Support the teams for their sales prospects and customer relations. Set sales targets and support them to achieve expectations
**Suppliers**:
- Develop confidence with suppliers to have the ranges that our customers need
- Implement a benchmark process with suppliers to check we have best-value-for-money ranges
- Support suppliers to improve the quality of their products and services
- Manage the contractual relationship with suppliers
**Required Skills**:
- Significant experience in international business development and the drive to expand sales skills.
- The person should be entrepreneurial-minded and enjoy exploring new territories - should have had successful professional experiences across Africa.
- The person should already have managed cross-functional teams and work with teams located in different locations and countries.
- Must have excellent communication skills, be empathic and understand customers’ expectations.
- Must have analytics and synthesis skills.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must be comfortable with computer tools (MS Office including Excel, Power BI) and you have already work with an ERP.
- First-hand experience about the oil & gas industry would be beneficial.
- The person should be fluent in both English and French. Portuguese or Italian would a benefit.
Must be willing to travel extensively into Africa.
**Salary**: R50,000.00 - R70,000.00 per month
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
**Experience**:
- paint and anti-corrision products: 5 years (required)
- travelling into Africa: 5 years (required)
- ERP system: 3 years (required)
**Language**:
- English and French (preferred)
Willingness to travel:
- 75% (required)
