**Extrusion Head of Department**

Proficient Packaging (PTY) Ltd. is a flexible plastic packaging manufacturer located in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. We specialize in various types of packaging for the FMCG, medical industry and food markets. Our products include clothing bags, security bags, zipper bags, courier bags, medical biohazard specimen bags. And more, which are distributed across South Africa and into Africa.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Direct and motivate staff towards maximum performance by setting clear goals and expectations.
- Manage and evaluate performance of extrusion staff while maintaining discipline in the workplace.
- Identify training needs for extrusion operators and supervisors, in line with required skill set for the role.
- Implement company goals, policies, procedures, and processes and ensure that subordinates comply with the same.
- Understand OEE and the activity required to reach OEE goals in Performance, Availability and Quality.
- Continuously focussed on waste minimising initiatives, implementations and driving thereof to reach waste targets set.
- Develop extrusion formulations (recipes) with a good knowledge of raw materials, polymers, and additives.
- Develop new products and generate samples, estimate costs, and prepare budgets for the Extrusion dept and new projects/innovation.
- Determine number of necessary resources (machinery, workforce, raw materials etc.) required for the department, monitor, and minimise waste.
- Organise, plan and coordinate workflow for Extrusion machines to meet customers specifications and delivery dates.
- Ensure well-maintained machinery and equipment (operational) to ensure smooth running of production.
- Develop and implement cost savings projects on a continuous basis.

**Educational Requirements**
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent
- Production Management Diploma/BTech Degree or equivalent.

**Experience Requirements**
- At least 5 years’ working experience in Plastic Film Extrusion at a Senior Supervisory or Management level.

**Skills and Competencies**
- Planning and organisational skills to be able to run and monitor the production process.
- The ability to act decisively and solve staff and or production related problems.
- The capacity to grasp concepts easily.
- Technical skills to deal with various technologies and programmes and computer literate.
- Attention to detail to ensure high level outputs and quality.
- The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with your team, colleagues, management, and clients where necessary.
- The ability to work under pressure and motivate others to meet deadlines with the capacity to grasp concepts easily.
- The ability to work in a logical, systematic manner with knowledge of polyolefins such as LDPE/LLDPE

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Cape Town, Western Cape: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
