Senior Economist

Duties/Pligte
**Ekonoom**:

- Doen navorsing en skryf verslae oor die makro-ekonomie, die resultate van die BEO se sakeopnames en in opdrag van kliënte;
- Vooruitskattingverantwoordelikhede;
- Bestuur en finaliseer gevestigde projekte;
- Besoek kliënte en doen aanbiedings oor die makro-ekonomie;
- Reik persverklarings uit en skakel met die media;
- Mentor jong ekonome.

**Addisionele pligte vir senior ekonoom**:

- Begin, bestuur en voltooi nuwe dienste, produkte en navorsing selfstandig;
- Interaksie met die media, buitelandse beleggers en multilaterale organisasies soos die IMF oor verskillende onderwerpe;
- Dra by daartoe om die gehalte van die BEO se navorsing in stand te hou en te verbeter;
- Lewer insette tot debatte oor Suid-Afrika se ekonomiese beleid.

**Economist**:

- Conducting research and writing reports on the macroeconomy, the results of the BER's business surveys and as commissioned by clients;
- Forecasting responsibilities;
- Managing and finalising existing projects;
- Visiting and engaging with clients and giving presentations on macroeconomic issues;
- Issuing press statements and liaising with the media;
- Mentoring young economists.

**Additional duties of senior economist**:

- Independently initiating, managing and finishing new services, products and research;
- Interacting with the media, foreign investors and multilateral organisations such as the IMF on a range of topics;
- Contributing to maintaining and improving the quality of the BER's research;
- Providing informed inputs to debates on South Africa's economic policy.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Minstens 'n meestersgraad in Ekonomie met 'n fokus op makro-ekonomie;
- Minstens drie tot vyf jaar se werkservaring vir die ekonoom posisie en meer as vyf jaar vir die senior ekonoom posisie wat insluit verslae skryf en makro-ekonomiese aanbiedings lewer vir kliënte in die privaat
- en / of openbare sektor;
- Die vermoë om met kliënte te kommunikeer en verhoudinge in stand hou;
- Uitmuntende kennis van makro-ekonomiese verwantskappe en ontwikkelinge in Suid-Afrika;
- Bewese vermoë om navorsing selfstandig te voltooi en om 'n span te bestuur om navorsingsprojekte af te handel;
- Uitstekende mondelinge en skriftelike kommunikasievaardighede in Engels;
- Die vermoë om akkuraat en selfstandig te kan werk;
- Die vermoë om onder druk te kan werk;
- Die vermoë om in 'n span te werk;
- Vaardigheid in MS Word, MS Excel en MS PowerPoint.
- At least a master's degree in Economics with specialisation in macroeconomics;
- At least three years' work experience for the economist position and at least five years' experience for the senior economist position in writing reports and giving presentations on macroeconomy for clients in the private and / or public sector;
- The ability to communicate with clients and maintain good relations;
- Excellent knowledge of macroeconomic relationships and developments in South Africa;
- Proven ability to finish research projects independently and to manage a team to complete research projects;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
- The ability to work accurately and independently;
- Capable of working in a team;
- Capacity to work under pressure;
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- Vaardigheid met E-Views en / of soortgelyke ekonometriese sagteware;
- Verdere akademiese kwalifikasie in ekonomie en statistiek met 'n fokus in makro-ekonomie of ekonometrie;
- 'n Sterk navorsingsprofiel in die vorm van toegepaste en/of gepubliseerde navorsing;
- Ervaring in die Suid-Afrikaanse ekonomiese beleidsomgewing sal voordelig wees;
- Sterk openbare profiel en geloofwaardigheid.
- Proficiency in E-Views and / or similar econometric software;
- Further academic qualification in economics and statistics with specialisation in macroeconomics or econometrics;
- A strong research profile in the form of applied and/or published research;
- Experience in the South African economic policy environment would be an advantage;
- Strong public profile and credibility.
