Refrigeration Operator

**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
To operate freezer tunnels and refrigeration plant.

**KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS**:

- Efficient running of the freezer compressors as per McCain standard.
- Pre start check of the ammonia refrigeration system which includes:

- Ammonia compressors
- Air compressors
- Surge drums
- Ammonia pump
- Freezer tunnel
- Evaporators
- Ensure that the freezer is well defrost and all covers are safely closed and safe for operation.
- Continuously monitor compressor performance to ensure adequate freezing of the product.
- Monitor and record performance every 1:30 minutes of the Tunnels, delivery pumps, surge drums levels and make adjust when required.
- Ensure that there is adequate water for tunnel defrost.
- Efficient running of the cold room compressors as per McCain standard.
- Inspect cold room temperature and record as requested.
- Inspect ammonia cold room compressor and record working parameters and adjust or startup compressor if required every two hours.
- Ensure that the hydro coolers are operating and the water is being circulated to cool down the product inside the cooler.
- Clean hydro cooler strainer.
- Take hydro cooler temperature and make necessary adjustments if required.
- Efficient running of the ammonia condensers.
- Constantly monitor system discharge pressure and start up the appropriate number of condensers as required.
- Ensure that the circulation pump and all condenser fans are always running.
- Report any water leaks or deviations.

**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**:

- Matric/ N3 Mechanical.
- Certificate in Ammonia Plant operation and Ammonia safe handling (Diploma in Ammonia Plant operation and Ammonia safe handling will be an added advantage).

**LEGAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Some understanding of OHSACT regulations.
- Understanding of Major Hazard Installations.
- Ammonia safe handling certificate.
