Advisory Sector Lead: Transport and Infrastructure

WSP is experiencing significant growth within our Infrastructure Advisory service offering across Africa. At the heart of it, we are about connecting business strategy to assets and executing the important decisions well. You will join our Division to lead our Infrastructure Advisory aspirations, where you will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists that ‘bring ideas to life’ for our clients across the education, health, local government, transport, water and future energy sectors.
Key Role
You will be reporting into the Transport and Infrastructure (T&I) Division Executive Committee, responsible for the leadership and growth of the Advisory sector, across all operational disciplines. In addition, you will be part of the Senior Leadership Team and as a collective be accountable for the performance and governance of the Division, operating within the regional delegation of authority.
You will aspire to be a trusted partner to our preferred clients, working across the whole infrastructure asset lifecycle, advising on investments and decisions that drive value and proactively respond to disruptive change.
Through a deep understanding of their challenges, you will work with our clients to co-create innovative solutions that help to shape the future withing the required return on investment. It’s your knowledge of decision making, projects and assets supported by the broader technical expertise of the business that will set WSP apart, with your demonstrated people leadership and technical acumen.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow an advisory delivery team based in either Johannesburg (Waterfall) or Cape Town office.
- Leading the development of portfolio strategies, business cases, process optimization frameworks, procurement strategies, risk management approaches and assurance frameworks.
- Maintaining and further developing relationships with a wide range of public and private sector clients and critical internal and external stakeholders.
- Integrate cross-functional and regional teams to deliver advisory services for our clients.
- Take a leading role in WSP T&I I Africa leadership team in the growth of this sector and working with our global network of advisory professionals and partner firms.
- Develop partnerships with third party vendors / partners to develop a flexible team providing solutions for client issues.
- Management of advisory project teams to deliver medium-large (or complex) client advisory engagements, within a billable target as agreed in the budget cycle.
- Ensure business winning activities, including opportunity identification and proposal development are carried out by assigned team members.
- Management of quality and risk on engagements.
- Client facing role for both business development and delivery, including stakeholder engagement.
- Liaise with technical teams on the client side and internal inter disciplinary teams to support project delivery.
- Ensure One Africa Advisory meeting is convened and actions acted upon.
- Develop service offerings that span the life cycle of infrastructure assets from design to decommissioning as an integrated service solution to our clients.

**Qualifications**
Qualifications and Experience Required
- A University degree in Engineering, Science, Law, Commerce/Economics or similar
- Industry applicable professional registration is mandatory
- 15 years in technical and strategic advisory and master planning.
- 5-10 years’ experience leading teams working within the infrastructure sector, ideally in procurement, business cases, process improvement, risk and/or assurance.
- Demonstrated experience in business development and delivery in technical and strategic advisory in Africa
- Experience working with international finance institutions (e.g. World Bank/IFC/AFD), funds and private financial institutions
- Experience in advising clients on the feasibility and delivery models for infrastructure or asset-intensive projects
- Broad understanding and interest in multiple infrastructure
