**HSE Specialist**
**Main Purpose**
- Co-ordinating and Leading HSE at both operational and leadership levels and be responsible for provision of a safe and secure working environment for employees, contractors and visitors.
- Site specialist in terms of know how in relation to HSE matters and a key point of contact for the site in relation to both Africa and Europe regions in implementation of key lessons learned and best practices.
- The hazardous waste incinerator always operates within the Atmospheric Emission License (AEL) conditions to keep our License to Operate including liaising with licensing authorities.
**Key Tasks & Responsibilities**
- Implement HSE Policy (Commitment) through maintenance and sustainability of ISO 14001 (EMS) and ISO 45001 (OHSMS).
- Facilitate and Lead Identification of Hazards and Assessments of Risks (Baseline and Task Risk assessments) including unsafe acts and operational conditions throughout the site.
- Ensure that all tasks performed have risk assessments and control measures are implemented and maintained.
- Carry out operational inspections highlighting areas of concerns with regards to safety and recommend corrective measures.
- Drive and Lead Health, Safety and Environment at operational level by being in close to the customer (entire site), through provision of direction, guidance, support and knowhow.
- Co-ordinate, Lead and Facilitate investigation of minor and recordable incidents and execution of corrective actions.
- Participate in HSE internal, certifications, Bayer Global and customer’s audits including government inspections (Department of Labour) and other departments (EMI, DEFF, GDARD) etc.
- Schedule and organize all legally required training, inspections and audits to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
- Coordinate and Lead contractor management on site by ensuring that all contractors comply with minimum requirements of the Construction Regulations Act.
- All bylaws' permits up to date and limits adhered too including AEL, Effluent, Storage of Dangerous Chemicals, Canteen etc.
- Responsible for improving working conditions by engaging with employees, seeking improvement ideas and solutions for better working conditions, be a challenger of status quo.
- Participate in EMEA HSE Forums, be a key contact person for implementation of lessons learned and measures to prevent high severity incidents.
- Drive and Co-ordinate HSE awareness through training, QHSE bulletins, Safety moments, Safety days, Wellness days etc.
- Oversee operation of the hazardous waste incinerator and ensure its operated safely, within the limits of the AEL and without air pollution complaints and incidents.

**Qualifications & Competencies**
- B-Tech in Safety Management or Chemical Engineering with a chemical background a must.
- Have a minimum of 10 years’ working experience of which 5 years as a HSE Specialist or Manager in a chemical plant.
- Be active, energetic, challenger of status quo, innovative, initiatives taker, self-starter, confident and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Be able to work and handle pressure during audits, incidents and government inspections.
