Bidvest Panalpina Logistics seeks to employ a Head of Legal to be based at their Head Office in Greenstone, Johannesburg. The successful incumbent will be responsible to manage the compliance and risk activities of the business, including legal, contracts, insurance, claims, SHE and quality.

This position reports directly into our Financial Director.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Completed LLB mandatory
- Admitted Attorney
- Shipping / Marine Law or Insurance Diploma / Certificate / experience
- Minimum of 5 years corporate legal
- Insurance experience
- Experience within logistics or freight environment would be highly advantageous.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Duties, not limited to_
- Review & authorise all new leases
- Review & approve major new service provider contracts or amendments to existing contracts
- Draft and /or review all client agreements
- Assist negotiations with contacts/agreements with clients
- Maintain contract register and records
- Deal with any letters of demand or summons served/received
- Instruct and manage external attorneys
- Depose to necessary affidavits
- Obtain Board Resolutions from Bidvest secretarial where necessary and ensure accuracy thereof
- Obtain up to date company legal documentation from Bidvest Secretarial and make available
- Draft minutes of the Executive Committee meetings
- Monitor the company’s progress on risk reduction objectives and targets
- Communicate updates on legal and risk management requirements where appropriate
- Compile insurance requirements for new assets, properties and clients
- Ensure contracts comply with insurer’s requirements
- Oversee claims process and claims department (insurance & third party)
- Assist with communication to third parties and / or clients where necessary
- Report on claims (including progress and management)
