**Purpose of the Job**:
To ensure all group companies comply with the requirements of the South African tax legislation.

**Key Performance Objectives & Tasks**

1. Income Tax Returns
- Prepare, review, and submit annual income tax returns and supporting schedules within specified time frames.
- Calculate and submit provisional tax returns.
- Review and confirm all income tax assessments received from South African Revenue Services (“SARS”).
- Reconcile balances per SARS’s statements of account to the assessments issued.
- Lodge queries or objections in respect of incorrect tax assessments, with solid grounds for objection.
- Ensure compliance with new income tax amendments
- Identify, monitor, report any possible tax risks and report on a timeous basis

2. Tax Accounting
- Prepare quarterly, half-yearly and annual tax calculations (current and deferred tax calculations).
- Prepare relevant accounting journals.
- Consolidate group tax calculations to determine the group tax charge.
- Prepare tax rate reconciliation for all companies and group.
- Prepare tax disclosure note for financial statements (annuals, half yearly and quarterly) for all companies and group.

3. VAT Returns
- Prepare, review, and submit monthly Value Added Tax (“VAT”) returns within required deadlines.
- Ensure payment to SARS within deadline to avoid interest and penalty charges.
- Prepare and review monthly VAT reasonability reports to ensure validity of input and output tax.
- Reconcile balances per SARS statements of accounts to returns submitted.
- Lodge queries or objections where warranted.
- Ensure compliance with new VAT act amendments
- Update the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) and the Board of possible tax risks.

4. Operations
- Supply audit support to internal and external audit
- Address all SARS queries in a professional manner and within specified time frames.
- Review and confirm all SARS correspondence.
- Establish good relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and model an understanding of firm philosophy, values and tax opinions and SARS rulings.
- Leads tax software technology process development and enhancement.
- Assist with research and preparation of tax position papers on significant transactions.
- Review tax asset registers.

Effective tax rate management

5. Tax Planning and Risk
- Provide necessary support to Executive head and CFO and Board- strategic tax planning;
- tax technical matters; and
- tax risks
- Keep abreast of all local tax regulatory requirements
- Document and communicate changes and updates to tax regulatory requirements.

6. People Management
- Manage & delegate necessary activities to the tax accountants; and
- Manage the team to ensure deadlines and targets are achieved.

7. Health and Safety Compliance
- Conform and adhere to Safety, Health and Environmental legislative requirements.
- Report any health and safety concerns/incidents in the workplace to the manager / health and safety representative.
- Assist the company to establish and maintain a fully compliant Healthy and Safe Work Environment.
- Attend the Safety, Health and Environmental workshops as required by management.

8. Reporting

Prepare reports for the respective Senior Executive Management, Committees, Board.

**Perform any related duties as requested by Management**

9. Other

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of Degree in B Com Accounting qualification and registration as a Charted Accountant (SA) with SAICA
- 3 years learnership/ articles and 2 Board Exam (inclusive)
- Postgraduate in Taxation considered favourable or Masters in Tax

**Experience**
- Minimum of 5+ year’s tax accounting and compliance experience (income tax and VAT).
