**Vacancy: Fleet Maintenance Mechanic**
**Location: Durban**
**KEY WORK OUTPUTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**
Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; doing adjustments and alignments; keeping records.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Financial Goals**
You will contain costs by using the correct warranty procedures and by evaluating service and parts suppliers on a continuous basis.
All purchases to be approved by the Branch or National Plant Manager, as necessary.
**Customer Goals**
Minimise downtime and ensure availability of machines to the sales team.
**Operational Goals**
Determine the condition of the machines (mobile cranes, trucks, trailers, LDV’s) at your branch by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts and compiling a fault report.
Conduct preventive and/or time-based maintenance as per OEM’s requirements; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion, etc.
Correct machine deficiencies by repairing, adjusting, overhauling, and replacing defective parts or systems, such as power and drivetrains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Upon completion of work on a machine, verify the machine’s performance by conducting function tests, test drives and testing of various other systems.
Maintain records of the machines under your control - including inspection sheets, job cards, report of repairs and services completed as well as warranty documents that might be available.
Perform risk assessments before performing any task/repair.
You will be required to understand / learn the full functionality of the cranes (including safe loading systems), learn to understand & read wiring and flow diagrams and learn to operate the cranes.
You will be required to perform standby duties as and when required and to work overtime when there are breakdowns and unfinished repairs as per action lists for cranes that are needed.
Ensure parts, oils, greases, and other necessary equipment is purchased and available for upcoming planned maintenance.
Be available to assist other mechanics in other business units when required.
Strictly adhere to Group Health and Safety procedures.
**PEOPLE GOALS**
Provide required training / guidance to your assistant Mechanic (where applicable).
Provide continuous feedback to Crane Operator and/or driver on the condition of the Crane, truck or vehicle to prevent mechanical damage.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS**
Grade 12 or N2 Technical Certificate & Trade Test Diesel/Earthmoving Mechanic.
Must be a qualified Mechanic, Auto electrician or Millwright.
Minimum of 3(three) years’ Mechanical experience working on **Mobile Cranes.**
Aptitude in using various hand tools and precision measurement tools.
Very good physical strength and stamina
Computer literacy a must
Valid driver’s license a must (Code 14 will be an added advantage)
**CHARACTERISTICS**
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
Be medically fit to be able to comply with site requirements and be able to complete duties.
You will need to obtain a crane operator license/certificate to ensure you can test and work on cranes on various sites as deemed necessary and is responsible to ensure the license is renewed before it expires.
