NDC Personnel & Contractors is seeking an experienced **Risk and Safety Officer** to join a prominent **FMCG** company based in the **Western Cape,** where you’ll be responsible for ensuring the compliance, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of safety protocols.

Among your many rewarding responsibilities, you’ll oversee Health and Safety management systems for all company sites, including risk assessments, incident investigations, and regulations’ compliance. You’ll conduct safety committee meetings, inspections, and contractor audits. Managing security, medical facilities, and staff medical records will also form a vital part of your duties, and you’ll ensure fire safety and compliance with OHSA regulations. You’ll provide Health & Safety training, ensure adherence to environmental standards, and keep management informed on legislative requirements.

In terms of personal responsibilities, you’ll participate in safety forums, report incidents, and comply with safety policies. Additionally, you’ll manage employee compliance and development.

As you’ll be overseeing the Health and Safety management systems for multiple company sites, you should be willing to travel both inside and outside of province on occasion.

We’re looking for a Risk and Safety Officer with the following qualifications, experience and expertise: a NEBOSH / SAMTRAC / diploma or degree in the Occupational Health and Safety field (with registrations from the Saiosh and the SACPCMP). Emergency medical experience and registration with the HPCSA, along with advanced first aid and firefighting knowledge, is advantageous. A qualification in the OHS ACT and at least 5 years of relevant work experience in an FMCG environment or factory setup is recommended.

You need to be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of OHSA and Regulations, NFPA 36, SANS 10400 (Fire Extinguishers), and SANS 10139 (Fire Detection). Strong communication and presentation skills, effective administration, organisation, and problem-solving abilities are essential. Good interpersonal and networking skills, along with an understanding of relevant legislation and management principles, are crucial.

Safety culture is important so you must have an excellent grasp of it, with proven capabilities in managing health and safety, medical, and security requirements.
