Handyman/maintenance

The Handyman is one of the most critical roles at the property as they create a clean and

orderly environment for our guests. The Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for

general cleaning and maintenance duties, which may include but not limited to

vacuuming, dusting, item washing, trash collecting and proper sorting.

Handymen will be required to conduct their duties in a courteous, high integrity,

attention to details, safe and efficient manner, in accordance with the companies policies

and procedures, ensuring that a high level of service is maintained.

**PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE**

This position is concerned with ensuring that standards of cleanliness in assigned guest

rooms are achieved and maintained on a consistent basis to provide the highest level of

guest satisfaction in cleanliness and service, within established time limitations.

**REMUNERATION**

Salary is dependent on experience. This is a full-time, permanent position based at a

Neighbourgood location.

**QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE**
- Educated person who can read & write & is willing to learn is preferred.
- Previous experience would be preferred.
- Healthy Body.
- Resilience.
- Ability to work in a multi-tasking fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
- Positive engaging personality and professional appearance.
- Ability to work all shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

**HARD-SKILL REQUIREMENTS**
- Handyman experience

**SOFT-SKILL REQUIREMENTS**
- Able to easily and concisely communicate in English Language (both verbally

and written)
- Comply with all organization policies.
- Comply with all systems and procedures as laid down by the Management.
- Basic Computer & Mathematics skills.
- The management reserves the right to change/extend this statement, if

- Adhere to and implement all Standard Operating Policies and procedures as

set by Management.

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Own transport

- Live in Cape Town (location-based position)

**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**
- To ensure all light bulbs in all electrical fittings are working.
- To ensure Plant rooms are clean.
- To wash all filters on monthly basis.
- To carry out small repairs on lighting circuit.
- To assist with general maintenance if required.
- To repair and change parts in Mixers and Flush master toilet systems.
- To clear air-conditioning coils.
- To assist with any duties delegated by Community Manager as and when

required.
- To repair room lamps and replace shades.
- To adhere to all Department Standard Operating procedures.
- To ensure that you are dressed in the correct uniform and that your appearance

enhances the image of the company.
- Follow the Personal and Hygiene grooming standards.
- To participate in departmental meetings when required.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees and

vendors/contractors.
- To ensure that all guests are treated efficiently and courteously at all times.
- To ensure guest complaints with regard to maintenance issues are carried

immediately.
- To always display the highest level of customer service.
- Report any suspicious activities to security.
- To ensure maximum security in all areas under your control.
- To carry out systematic checks of all Maintenance areas for maintenance

requirements, repairs or refurbishing, ensuring that these are actioned without

delay.
- To ensure that all Maintenance areas are clean and tidy at all times, including

bathrooms.

- To ensure that all guests receive the best possible standard of service at all

- To ensure that all guest complaints / compliments received are dealt with in

the correct professional manner and sent to the Housekeeping Supervisor, in a

timely fashion and that these are all recorded and any actions to be followed up

are completed and files updated.

**HEALTH & SAFETY**
- To safeguard all company materials, equipment, goods, and assets.
- To be totally security conscious at all times and ensure that effective

procedures are in operation for bomb scares, etc.
- Report any suspicious activities to security.
- To ensure maximum security in all areas under your control.
- To ensure that all areas in your department are clean and tidy at all times,

including guest bathrooms.
- Follow the company’s Personal and Hygiene grooming standards.
- You must be aware of emergency procedures.
- To report all accidents and near misses to your Manager or Human Resources

Department.
