Reporting to the Site and News Editor, News24 is looking for a digitally savvy **Deputy Site Editor: Production** with an eye for quality and a passion for journalism to join our desk team.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- A relevant tertiary qualification.
- At least 5-10 years of experience in the journalism industry.
- Experience in online editing.
- Sound editorial knowledge, including proficiency as a writer with strong editing skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the target market.
- Proficiency in relevant content management programs and analytical tools
**Skills & Competencies**:

- Passion for news, a flair for story packaging and strong communication skills.
- Good sense of news and news management, with an ability to identify content that resonates with local audiences.
- Good attention to detail, with excellent writing, rewriting and sub-editing skills and a flair for headlines.
- Ability to identify the best visual elements to enhance content.
- Must have a good understanding of local and international news, and a passion for breaking news.
- Be able to perform under pressure, with short turn-around times, as well as manage long-term projects.
- Must be versatile, flexible and adaptable to change.
- Must have some knowledge of a CMS.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, over weekends and public holidays.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Manage the News24 production process, ensuring online news content is published with the appropriate collateral to enrich copy.
- Edit content to ensure it’s in line with the publication's style and take responsibility for quality of content.
- Responsible for ensuring News24's visual offering is enhanced across the various verticals.
- Assist the Site & Analytics Editor to ensure that fresh and accurate content is published and ranked appropriately, step in when the editor is unavailable.
- Manage the World and Africa sections to make sure they are updated regularly.
- Help the news team with special projects, mainly produced on Shorthand, and where necessary liaise with different teams from across the different verticals.
- Manage and run live updates where necessary.
- Work independently on weekends and/or public holidays where required.
