**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:

- Degree (NQF 7) in Food Science or Food Technology,
- 3 to 5 years of work experience in the laboratory environment/Food Industry

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Excellent laboratory skills
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
- Ability to conduct relevant analytical procedures in accordance with recognised methods
- Ability to remain motivated when conducting repetitive laboratory procedures
- Strong analytical ability and ability to interpret results
- Attention to detail when undertaking tasks
- Organized and results-driven
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Adaptable and shows initiative to develop further academically
- Ability to independently conduct laboratory projects

**Summary of duties**
- Conducting of practicals, ordering, receiving and controlling of stock
- Involvement in consultancy work/ third stream income generation
- Maintaining GLP in the laboratory
- Interpreting results and generating accurate, analytical reports according to specified methods and procedures
- Keeping up to date with scientific and research developments in the field of Food Science
- Preparing and updating of SOPs
- Assisting with the execution of routine activities and continuous improvement of methods and processes within the laboratory
- Supervision of laboratory assistants and routine cleaning
- Performing other duties within the bounds of the competency level of the post as prescribed by the HOD
