**BAT SOUTH AFRICA IS LOOKING FOR A LOCAL MATERIALS PLANNER INTERN TO JOIN OUR TEAM ON A FIXED-TERM CONTRACT OF 1 YEAR**

**ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES**

The purpose of this role is to ensure material requirements are achieved to support the short to medium term factory production plan, ensuring strategic business objectives are met and long term customer services guaranteed.

The **Material Planner Intern** works in close relationship with Materials Supply Manager, Regional MSM Teams, NPI, Procurement and Production Planners. In addition, they are involved in cross functional project teams to ensure that the materials supply plan meets the factory requirements.

**WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR**
- Place materials purchase orders/contracts in-line with supplier lead-times to meet multiple factory production plan requirements in SAP system.
- Ensure period of material cover is sufficient (usually 4-6 weeks excluding supplier lead-time) whilst maintaining target inventory levels and optimal supplier price.
- Maintain target stock levels within the factory.
- Daily contact with Suppliers to ensure material purchase orders are delivered on time and in full and that a long-term relationship is developed with the supplier to drive business process improvements.
- Explore opportunities for improved planning efficiency and placing of materials orders.
- Working with other teams and departments to implement the phasing in and out of new/old materials as part of a controlled process (achieving agreed deadlines with minimum cost).
- Drive new initiatives within the team ensuring that the full potential of benefits are realised within the given time.
- Regular communication with Finance for supplier invoice payment, materials costing etc.
- Regular communication with Global Procurement for materials price and understanding the future strategies which in turn could impact our supplier footprint.
- Maintain and build excellent working relationships with our Suppliers and exchange of information to ensure effective processes are developed to improve service & performance

**ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
- We expect you to have graduated and have with a zeal for learning, be driven and ambitious.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised and under pressure.
- Good organizational and communication skills are essential.
- Good negotiating and influencing skills supported by rational decision making.
- Understanding of Supply Chain principles.
- Knowledge of operational systems and procedures (forecasting, MRP, BOM, etc.) with a good appreciation of other related functions (Customer Services, Production Scheduling and Production Planning) will be a plus
- Competent in computer skills and the use of the Microsoft Office package
- SAP ECC experience in inventory planning, master data, purchase order management will be a plus
