Our client in the mining and minerals industry has a 2 year contract vanancy for a Project Manager - Conversion of Furnaces to SmeltDirect technology.

The opportunity exists for an experienced and suitably qualified individual to lead the project management of the commercialization of this groundbreaking new smelting technology which include feasibility studies, construction and commissioning for the production of ferrochrome from the first smelting unit.
- Management and control of a large capital project.
- Delivering large and complex projects on time.
- Management of EPC/M contractors.
- Manage governance and controls during project execution.
- Project safety management.
- Managing project cost control and accounts payable.
- Implement quality control systems.
- Project resource allocation and set up.
- Leading the project team.
- Reporting.
- Managing interfaces between the Client, project team and operations.
- Ensuring adherence to scope and implement change management.
- Ensure adherence to a document control management system.
- Managing procurement operating plan in accordance with the baseline schedule including upfront engineering and design.
- Ensure that technical specifications are approved as input to any design.
- Ensure that the process related documentation (PDC. PFD, P&ID, FDS, etc.) is well managed in accordance with the approved procedure to avoid re-work.
- Elevate risks to the Clients representative as the project continues and maintain a project risk register.
- With assistance from others, interrogate the designs produced by the EPCM including the cost estimates.

**Experience**:

- Minimum 10 Years experience as Project Manager.
- Experience at Furnace / Metallurgical operations, preferably at ferro-alloy smelters.
- Management of large capital budgets within budget.
- Delivering large and complex projects on time.
- Management of EPC/M contractors.
- Project safety management.
- Project Quality Management Systems.
- Project Environmental Management Systems.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- National diploma/ Degree Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
- Government certificate of competency - Factories.
- Post graduate qualification in project management or PMP.

**Recommended**:

- Post Graduate qualification MBA, Management or related.
- Middle Management program successfully completed.

**Other Requirements**:

- The incumbent must have enough experience to set up a project from scratch including resourcing it and presenting a business case at the end of the DFS.
- Understanding of PMBok principles.
- General understanding of FIDIC 1987 and SANS 1200 contractual conditions.
