Seamer Mechanic

Executes mechanical tasks in accordance with the maintenance programme and in line with legislative requirements and factory standards. Uses analytical and problem-solving skills to run tests on equipment to determine the root cause of equipment failure.

**Responsibilities**:

- Set up and adjust filling & seaming machines and equipment to give proper closure
- Programme recipe changes on equipment according to procedures
- Conduct tear-down tests and check using a micrometer
- Specify, install and commission new equipment for projects according to agreed timelines
- Maintain filling & seaming machines and equipment according to the maintenance schedule
- Operate machines to produce parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, grinding, or drilling metal stock or components
- Maintain services plant equipment according to the maintenance schedule
- Maintain stock of allocated spares to agreed levels and report shortages
- Train and instruct seamer operators to operate machines effectively as required
- Respond to breakdowns according to job cards
- Keep production and other stakeholders informed of repair progress
- Manage service providers/ contractors as required
- Maintain housekeeping, safety, and food safety requirements.

- National Senior Certificate or National Certificate Vocational
- Red Seal Fitter & Turner or Seamer
- 3 years of mechanical fault finding on manufacturing equipment and facilities
- 4 years FMCG experience
- 2 years experience as a Seamer Mechanic in a cannery would be advantageous
- Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills
- Detail & safety focus.
