**UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE**

The further focus is on programmes aimed at preventing occupational illnesses and injuries, managing disability, assessing and preventing risks, providing consultation with employers / client management team and employees, offer training and wellness education as planned by management to create awareness and a safe working environment with a functioning working community, preventing work related diseases and accidents, promoting work ability of individuals and work populations.

The OHN therefore focusses on the relationship between work, the work environment and the worker's health with an aim of improving, protecting, restoring the health of the worker and influencing the health of the organisation.

**EXPECTATIONS AND WORK COMPLETION RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Central to the OHN's responsibilty and competencies however not limited to, to advise the company regarding health, hygiene matters and hazards. We would require the OHN to make a consistent and continuous analysis of the employees suitability to work or work in the environment they work in based on their health status, the environment and assessments completed by the OHN.

The company on-site clinic is a primary health care on-site healthcare facility for the employees to be seen and managed by the OHN and OHMP with a dispensing facility. The OHN requires a dispensing qualification with extensive knowledge of medication available and also has to make a determination of causation of disease or illness in occupational nature. This will allow for the correct referral within the healthcare service for effective healthcare management.

It is expected for the OHN to work collaboratively with other professionals as a member of the occupational health team as well as work independently with integrity. Use ethical principals and moral reasoning to manage patient healthcare. Conduct monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

Specific competency would require the OHN to have extended knowledge of WHO policies, guidelines for healthy workplaces and specific references to those ratified by South Africa. Identify legislation and policy guidelines relevant to occupational health nursing. Analyses and interpret legislation relevant to the workplace to the benefit of the employer and the employee. Interpret, understand and implement relevant legislative requirements including but not limited to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases ACT (COID Act), Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Act, National Health Act, Employment Equity Act, Medicines and Related Substance Act to the benefit of both employees and employer. Utilising resources to facilitate ethical decision making and resolve ethical dilemmas i.e. NIOH

Maintaining confidentiality of health information in accordance with professional codes, statues and regulations and practice occupational health nursing within the scope of of professional ethical norms.

Plan, implement and evaluate health promotion campaigns within a team approach with the employer.

Conduct and report on a health risk assessment in the workplace, health surveillance, physical assessment, suitability and fitness tests, and perform specific screening tests. Correlate exposure to workplace health and physical hazards, compile Occupational Risk Exposure Profiles (OREP) at pre-employment, periodic and exit levels for all employees.

Afford quality improvement to the client, serving as a health role model for others, empowering others, extremely good bedside manner. Participate in identifying, advise and refer the need of EAP for the following heath related issues : HIV, STI alcoholism, substance abuse chronic diseases, psychosocial conditions, shift work and vulnerable groups.

Ensure compliance with Major Hazard Installation Regulations.

Networks and communicates across all levels within the organisation, utilises principles of human resource, financial and quality management of the facility. Comply with internal and external audit standards (such as ISO, SANS,OHSAS).

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

Relevant Qualification in Occupational Health

Dispensing Qualification

OHN experience for at least years.

Clear Criminal Record

Self-discipline

Competent on the screening systems provided

Computer literacy

Ability to communicate effectively

**WORKING HOURS**

Contracted full-time

Monday - Friday 8 hours a day

Overtime occasionally required at the company’s discretion.

Starting as soon as possible,
