**The Foundation**
We are the largest nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise: that people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. By building a global and cultural workplace that supports greater diversity, equity, and inclusion — of voices, ideas, and approaches — together with our employees and partners, we can help all people improve their lives from poverty and health to education. As an organization we offer full healthcare premiums coverage, generous paid time off, contribution to your retirement fund, several employee communities, and a commitment to embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into everything we do.
**The Team**
Our Global Health (GH) program harnesses advances in science and technology to save lives in poor countries. We focus on the health problems that have a major impact in developing countries but get too little attention and funding. Where proven tools exist, we support sustainable ways to improve their delivery. Where they do not, we invest in research and development of new interventions, such as vaccines, drugs, and diagnostics. Our work in infectious diseases focuses on strategies to fight and prevent HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, neglected and other infectious diseases, enteric and diarrheal diseases, and pneumonia. These strategies are supported by functional teams that focus on Discovery and Translational Sciences, Vaccine Development, and Integrated Development.
The Africa team works to enable the foundation’s ambitious goals of scaling evidence-based interventions that target a range of disease and socio-economic conditions which are endemic across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The team executes its responsibility through direct country engagement to deploy interventions and delivery models, and by building the partner architecture to replicate successful interventions and models across multiple countries. The team also works closely with key continental and regional organizations to help accelerate implementation across multiple geographies.
**Your Role**
Responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of grants focused on optimizing African regulatory systems through which medical products (pharma, vaccines, diagnostics, and vector control products) must go to be legally marketed in countries across Africa. The role and responsibilities of the Senior Program Officer Africa-based Regulatory Systems Strengthening initiatives will be focused on working with the multiple National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) on the continent of Africa, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, the regional economic communities (RECs) in Africa, World Health organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO), and institutions of the African Union - consistent with the implementation of the Foundation’s global regulatory systems optimization strategy.
All activities require the ability to develop and implement grants and work plans, and the ability to work in close collaboration with multiple external partners and with internal colleagues to ensure the integration and coordination of their work with the foundation's overall global health strategy. The officer will also contribute significantly to strategy shaping. Primary responsibilities are listed below.
