A.Job Title:
Cashier reporting to the Retail Manager
B. Job Overview
The Cashier will manage all transactions with customers accurately and efficiently. Amongst other
duties, this person will ring up/check out sales, bag items, request price checks, honour coupons,
collect payment and give appropriate change.

C. Areas of Responsibility (Your duties will include but are not limited to)

1 Preparation Activities
- Receive and double check float for the day
- Know products available
- Ensure that there are no price changes from the previous day

2 Cashier Activities
- Ensure that all items are scanned or read in to avoid any shortages
- Ensure that all items display product codes and proper pricing
- Ensure that you issue the correct change
- Ensure the correct procedure is followed when a client is paying with a debit / credit card
- Issue the cash slip to the client to enable Security to check the items upon exit
- Do not leave the till key in till when unattended

3 Client Service
- Be friendly, treat clients with respect and dignity and assist where possible
- Ask for assistance if you do not know how to assist a client
- Assist clients on the floor when the shop is not busy and another cashier is at a till - you are also fulfilling a sales role

4 Cash Management
- Ensure that you never keep more than R2500-00
- Complete your daily cash up at the end of each day
- Follow safety procedures when cashing up or walking with cash

5 Teamwork
- Support department managers and co employees.
- Actively participate as a member of the team
- Performing any other task, not specified herein, which from time to time may be assigned by the

manager.
6 Housekeeping and Safety Standards
- Ensures that cleaning and housekeeping standards on equipment and work areas are

maintained according to laid down standards and norms
- Ensure Personal hygiene standards are maintained
- Take reasonable care for own health and safety as well as the health and safety of others
- Wear the correct PPE in accordance with the company policy and procedures
- No interference or abuse of any health, safety and environmental welfare equipment
- Keep work areas clean and free from hazards and risks

D. Knowledge, skills, and experience required
Educational Background:

- Grade 12
- Basic Computer Literacy
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand Afrikaans & English
- Basic Mathematical Skills

Knowledge/Skills:

- Operational Agility
- Accurate and attention to detail
- Ensure Vision, Mission and Values underpin all activities
