What will you do?
The Head of Forensic Services is responsible for the SLS Forensic Services team which is responsible for the forensic services function within SLS, as well as other Sanlam businesses with whom services have been contracted.
The role exists to build intelligence, investigative and preventative strategies and processes which ensure the reduction of crime-related activities within Sanlam What will make you successful in this role?
Provide strategic direction to the SLS Forensic Units that will ensure effective plans for dealing with fraud prevention, detection and response to fraud allegations and confirmed fraud cases.
Providing advice and guidance to own teams as well as businesses within Sanlam regarding fraud risks and the handling of sensitive/complex cases involving any form of unlawful conduct.
Monitor and report on cases where recommendations made by SLS Forensics are deviated from by management, to the SLS Exco, as per the Sanlam Life Insurance Fraud Risk Management Policy. In terms of the Group Financial Crime Combating Policy these instances must also be reported to the Sanlam Life & Limited Risk & Compliance Committees via Group Forensics.
Manage SLA and relationship with Sanlam business units that are not part of SLS but who contracted with SLS Forensics to deliver services to them.
Formulating and presenting of quarterly Fraud Risk Reports at the respective risk forum meetings to executive management and/or directors.
Managing of SLS Forensic Teams in terms of effective and dynamic functioning of teams, trained and skilled personnel and performance management.
Liaise with relevant regulatory authorities and industry associations on fraud and the regulatory environment relevant to fraud.
Managing of budgets in SLS Forensic teams to contain costs within the budget framework.
Annual review and update of the Insurance Fraud Risk Management Policy for Sanlam Life. Qualification and Experience
Relevant tertiary qualification in Law, Commerce or the Forensic Investigation field
Qualification that covers Forensics, money laundering, commercial crime or cybercrime will be an advantage.
ICFP and/or CFE certification
Sound knowledge of legislation, regulations and legal principles applicable to the financial industry (FAIS, LTIA, Insurance Act and Prudential Standards, FICA, POCA, POCDATRA, PRECCA, POPIA, Criminal and Civil Procedure Act etc.).
Sound knowledge of the statutory and common law principles applicable to financial crime.
Specific knowledge of the environment in which a life insurer and non-banking financial institutions operate, as well as knowledge of financial institutions in general.
Thorough knowledge of investigative methodology and techniques.
At least 10 years of experience in managing and leading a team of senior specialists responsible for the investigation of high level and complex financial crimes, fraud prevention and detection.
