Tree House Leader

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO**:
**Preferably someone residing in the Western Cape area i.e Franshoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch.**

**Someone passionate about kids and outdoor activities i.e farm tours, guided hikes.**
- Organise & conduct outdoor expeditions for Boschendal guests and outdoor enthusiasts. These expeditions come in a variety of forms.
- To help create and deliver fun-filled, programmes of age-appropriate activities for 4 to 14-year olds, in a stimulating and caring environment. The activities can include foraging, natural arts and outdoor cooking experiences, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, gardening, drumming or supervising a chill out reading zone or movie night. The ability to use initiative is important.
- To be a supportive part of a team to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of The Tree House and assist in the training and supervision of the Outdoor Adventure Leaders and Volunteers.
- To help develop and coordinate the activities according to the daily bookings. Flexibility is important and to be able to think on one’s feet.
- Take responsibility for the daily registration processes and communicate in a caring and polite manner with parents, children and co-workers, therefore ensuring that everyone is clear about expectations, the manner in which the farm operates, and the content of each daily programme.
- Ensuring that guests & children are always kept safe by following Boschendal policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, risk assessment and other health & safety issues.
- Deal calmly with challenging issues, ensuring parents and carers are suitably informed with accurate feedback (both positive as well as negative) and act as manager in the manager’s absence.
- Additional administrative duties include managing the programme inventory and assist with peer and volunteer scheduling and training.
- Be at the front desk to welcome & assist walk-ins and guest enquiries.
- Notify the Manager of stock that the Tree House needs and use daily and that needs to be ordered via bulk stores, food lab & butchery.
- Assist with stock takes when required by Bulk stores
- Notify the Manager of needs from maintenance, wood workshop, landscaping and garden team.
- Check first aid box once a month and request a top up of anything needed.
- Being responsible for keeping the Treehouse sanitized, clean & tidy. Ensure the upkeep of the playground & the gardens.
- Be prepared to attend regular in-house training, as well as First Aid, Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and other specialised activities such as composting & animal care
- Take responsibility for own cash up; ensuring all bills are closed off correctly & taking personal responsibility of cash.

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES**:

- Studying towards or already achieved a certification in child education / care AND / OR
- Studying towards or already achieved certification through South African Tour Guides Association
- First Aid Level 1 - focus on paediatrics will be advantageous.
- Excellent knowledge of indigenous Fauna & Flora
- Have excellent knowledge of the local mountain ranges and natural wildlife. Knowledge of Boschendal History will be advantageous.
- Have excellent interpersonal & communication skills in English. A foreign language would be advantageous.
- Must be passionate about conservation, community and have a love and understanding of the natural & farming environment. Be adventurous.
- Work well with people, communication at all levels - providing guests with an amazing outdoor experience.
- Manage stress well.
- Be able to use own initiative, work well in a team and be able to adapt to change.
- Patience, dependability, creative, hands-on approach
- Basic Computer skills including MS Office
- Physically fit
