Duties/Pligte

1. Clinical assessments:

- Conducting clinical assessments and observations on pediatric participants in accordance with study protocols and SOP's;
- Effectively communicating participant clinical concerns with the medical officer or PI, if necessary;
- Administering behaviour-, social-, and medical questionnaires accurately and efficiently;
- Performing HIV counseling and -testing;
- Performing clinical nursing procedures related to study protocols;
- Conducting phlebotomies on participants.
- 2. Study coordinator:

- Ensuring adherence to FAMCRU Standard Operational Procedures (SOP's) and contributing to drafting SOP's when required;
- Daily management and coordination of the Healthy Child Study;
- Coordinating and managing the booking of a large cohort of paediatric participants for study visits;
- Ensuring continuous adequate staff availability for participant visits;
- Performing informed consent procedures with study participants and verifying informed consent taken by the study staff;
- Assisting with tracing patients as needed to ensure participation retention;
- Collaborating closely with other research team staff at FAMCRU, community clinic staff, Unit healthcare workers and field staff;
- Keeping money / voucher logs and issuing transport vouchers to participants;
- A comprehensive understanding of all studies conducted within the neurodevelopmental team;
- Interacting with community members, and potentially conducting house visits to facilitate participant engagement;
- Liaising with FAMCRU facility staff and subcontractors to maintain study site infrastructure and equipment;
- Performing various administrative tasks related to studies, including ordering consumables and writing reports;
- Maintaining excellent relationships with different FAMCRU teams: research nurses, laboratory staff and drivers, and key investigators to ensure smooth study operations;
- Maintaining a high standard of data collection through quality control procedures;
- Assisting with staff training where required, including newly appointed staff;
- Attending Unit
- and team meetings;
- Reporting adverse events and serious adverse events to the PI and project manager;
- Setting up participant files;
- Coordinating laboratory samples, i.e., collection, accurate labelling, transport and delivery, and managing results;
- Liaising with the project manager regarding regulatory matters.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse;
- A diploma or degree in primary health care;
- At least four years' applicable experience in both KPA's in a clinical research capacity;
- Experience with working under Good Clinical Practice (GCP) conditions and NIH studies;
- The ability to independently conduct clinical assessments of paediatric patients;
- Willingness to work at different FAMCRU sites, including those in the Delft, Khayelitsha, Worcester, or Kraaifontein site clinics of Cape Town for the neurodevelopmental team;
- A goal oriented disposition with strong organisational skills are essential;
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills;
- Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team;
- Skilled in MS Word, MS Excel and REDCap data collection;
- A valid driver's licence;
- Proficiency in English;
- Committed to maintaining patient confidentiality;

Recommendation/Aanbeveling
- Proficiency in isiXhosa;
- Previous experience in paediatric or neurodevelopmental research will be advantageous.
