Engineering Technologist

**Job Purpose**: The Department of Transport and Public Works, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a qualified and registered Engineering Technologist to support departmental construction and maintenance teams by establishing construction and maintenance standards, work methods, improvements to quality, efficiency and effectiveness of operations and support for maintenance management systems. This post is based in Paarl at the Office of the District Roads Engineer (DRE).
**Minimum Requirements**: Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification at an accredited institution that allows for registration with ECSA; Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technologist; A minimum of 3-years post qualification Engineering technologist experience in road maintenance and construction; A valid driving licence (Code B).
**Recommendation**: Willingness to travel; Experience in the following: Road maintenance, road construction, human resources management and development; Construction machinery; Maintenance, reparation and building of gravel and surfaced roads; A valid Code EC driving licence with PDP.
**Key Performance Areas**: Development, maintenance and improvement of quality control and methods manuals for in-house maintenance and construction work; Develop construction and maintenance methods guidelines and update annually; Training and production monitoring and improvement of in-house maintenance and construction work; Provide on the job/in-house training, presenting and facilitation; Research, technical report writing and data analysis; Assist with researching, investigating, developing and implementation of new technologies in the roads construction and maintenance environments, such as trail/test sections for different materials types and equipment.
**Remuneration**: Grade A: R 369 351 - R 398 166 per annum, Grade B: R 420 402 - R 452 895 per annum, Grade C: R 480 678- R 566 223 per annum, (Salary will be determined based on post registration experience as per OSD prescript). Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
