Quality Manager

The Big Picture:
Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa is looking for a Quality Manager to effectively manage and lead the Quality Department by ensuring the development, maintenance and control of the Quality Management Systems and Quality Control Processes, in order to produce a quality product or service cost effectively.

What needs to be done?
- To develop, maintain and control Quality Management Systems in line with local and international standards to ensure compliance and the supply of cost effective quality products and services.
- Assist in the development of improvement processes for the various departments to reduce unnecessary cost & rectification.
- To prepare, review, approve, monitor and control quality control plans to ensure that the quality system and contractual quality requirements are adhered to and to make certain that the project quality requirements are communicated to the relevant parties.
- Conduct annual internal & supplier audits to ensure compliance to Quality Management Systems to identify shortcoming and improvements.
- To assist with the inspection and testing of work in progress to ensure that the product or service adheres to drawings and specifications.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients to instil customer confidence and satisfaction in Howden processes, products and services in keeping with a professional organisation.
- Carry out quality training of personnel in line with the agreed annual programme thereby creating quality awareness amongst personnel which will lead to continuous improvement and development.
- Effectively manage and control departmental overhead budget and personnel to achieve the Company’s strategic objectives while at the same time ensuring staff are motivated, positive, focused and well informed.
- Formulate and agree KRA’s annually with departmental personnel to ensure target objectives are met and training needs are identified, thereby ensuring continuous development and performance standards are maintained.
- SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls

What do you need to bring?
- Quality Engineering Degree/Diploma or equivalent.
- SA Institute of Welding: Welding & Fabrications Inspector Level and understanding of various NDT methods and procedures.
- 7 years’ experience in a similar position with at least 3 years’ experience in a management capacity.
- 5 years’ experience as an artisan in boilermaking, welding, fitting and turning within a heavy engineering manufacturing environment.
- 5 years’ experience as an inspector in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read & interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Computer literacy - Microsoft Office Suite.
- ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems experience.
- Accredited Internal Audit and Quality Management System courses.
