**_ Position Purpose:_**
Strategic leadership and policy development
- Develop a strategy and policy for heritage resources preservation.
- Lead the preservation and management of Transnet’s Heritage portfolio in line with legislative and business requirements
and corporate governance principles.
- Provide strategic leadership on Transnet’s tourism and hospitality offering.
Advocacy and partnerships
- Develop partnerships with external partners for the preservation and restoration of Transnet’s heritage assets in line with
Transnet’s policy frameworks.
- Advocate for heritage tourism within Transnet and increase awareness of Transnet’s Heritage tourism and hospitality
offerings.
- Lead tourism development working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish Transnet as a formidable player in tourism and hospitality sector by leveraging Transnet’s heritage assets.
- Ensure effective engagement with strategic internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to the Department
of Tourism, the DPE, SAHRA, the tourism industry, potential private partners/concessionaires, provincial and local heritage

Strategy for the management, commercialisation and optimisation of the initiatives
- Lead the development of a strategy for the management, commercialisation and optimisation of Heritage Assets and
Tourism & Hospitality initiatives to ensure maximum return on investment to Transnet; and external partners.
- Manage and ensure the development of heritage tourism offerings in alignment with existing services such as the
museums, library, lighthouses, branch lines etc.
- organisations, and Heritage Associations regarding the management of the Transnet Heritage portfolio;
- Drive internal stakeholder alignment on the management of Transnet heritage assets
Commercialisation and business development
- Lead and guide the commercialisation of Transnet’s Heritage assets and exploitation through tourism for revenue
generation purposes and reputational gain.
- Package commercial offerings and ensure fresh branding and marketing of commercial offerings for Tourism.
Museums management
- Manage and position the museums owned by Transnet including the heritage library;
- Categorize the elements of Heritage and Tourism, e.g. Heritage sites, Heritage museums, etc. and develop a working
format with the current caretakers of the assets;
- Identify the geographical, situational and technical requirements for the Heritage and Tourism Assets.
Governance and Risk Management
- Establish credible internal systems and governance and compliance processes to enable the successful achievement of
the required business performance.
- Ensure valuations of the artworks.
- Ensure the development and management of a national inventory database of all Transnet’s Heritage assets and sites.
- Identify, assess and manage the Risk and Compliance aspects of the Heritage and Tourism portfolio within Transnet.
- Ensure the development of mitigating measures in response to risks that may impact strategic and operational objectives.
- Direct and manage matters emanating from governance structures and ensure that appropriate action is timeous and
adequate.
