**Role description**

The Worcester Plant Superintendent will manage the day to day operations of the operation to ensure the safe and sustainable and profitable operation of the facility. This is an opportunity for a position to work hands
- on as well as manage a small operation in an independent manner, in close coordination with the owner team.

**Key responsibilities**:
**Running and managing the operation in an independent manner**:

- **Safety, legal**:

- Regulatory compliance: Ensure facility operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., food safety, environmental regulations).
- Worker safety: Implement and enforce safety and health protocols to protect employees from hazards.
- Biosecurity: Implement measures to ensure the hygienic operation to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases and pests.
- Ensure that emergency preparedness is in place (Fire, power outages, health and safety incidents)
- Conduct safety meetings and inspections on machines and facilities
- Keep record of the above for inspection by the owners and relevant authorities

- Ensure the security of the facility

- Based on client requirements plan the required production requirements on a day, week and month horizon:

- **Supply chain management**:Manage the procurement and inventory of supplies, equipment, and feedstocks.
- **Process management**:

- Larvae production: Oversee the neonates rearing, and harvesting of BSF larvae.
- Feed management: Manage the procurement, storage, and distribution of feedstocks
- Environmental control: Monitor and maintain optimal temperature, humidity, ventilation and lighting conditions for BSF growth.
- **Maintenance management**:

- Facility maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings, and infrastructure.
- **Financial management**:

- Budgeting and financial planning: Develop and manage budgets, financial plans.
- **Marketing**:

- Assist and working in close coordination with the owners team to develop products and market them in order to obtain financial stability
- Market development: Identify and pursue market opportunities for BSF products (e.g., animal feed, fertilizers).
- **Data collection**:

- **Tracking of growth rates, environmental controls, % survival achievied**:

- Reporting and performance metrics: Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure facility performance and make data-driven decisions Data of staff attendance, hours worked, leave

- **Larval health monitoring: Regularly inspect larvae for signs of disease, pests, or contamination.**:

- Quality control of feedstocks: Ensure feedstocks meet quality and safety standards.
- Product quality control: Monitor the quality of harvested larvae, including size, weight, and moisture content.
- Research and development
- **Manage any proposed test work, changes in feed**:

- Obtain owner approval for any test work
- Ensure test work is conducted on a small scale and no changes ae made to the production process unless agreement is obtained by the owners team
- Internal and external Communication
- **Set up communication routines**:

- Prior to communicating with regulators, competitors and clients obtain agreement with the owners team

Pay: R12 000,00 - R20 000,00 per month
