**Caterpillar have an exciting role for a Category Buyer to join our team here in South Africa.

JOB PURPOSE: Perform advanced analytical tasks, often of a confidential nature in support of the global supply network Manages suppliers by developing improvement plans and support buyers & professionals related to Response Time, Lean Targets Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management (QCLDM) to enable optimal and efficient operations.

This role is a key interface between internal procurement team, the industries, and the Product Groups. You will liaise with various departments including product team, logistic team, local and global suppliers, and dealers.

**Roles and Responsibilities**:

- Conduct the analysis and maintenance of procurement and logistics data including but not limited to: purchase orders, quotations, invoices, source catalogs, material rejection reports, tooling records, supplier data/measurement, inventory management
- Conduct analysis for product and logistics teams
- Inform the progress to internal and external customer.
- Work closely with different internal departments and external suppliers, dealers at all levels.
- Be responsible for implementation of local or regional sourcing strategy, under the direction of their Manager and experienced Buyers & professionals.
- Conduct reports for the Global Supply Network
- Request business travel rate: 25%

**Skill and experience requirement**:

- The position requires an undergraduate degree from university - or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in a similar Buyer role, we’re open to the industry you are currently working in
- Deep understanding of BBBEE and how to affect this through our buying strategy
- Demonstrate ability to interact and work with senior people across the organization, you’ll work and support our leadership teams so you’ll need to be comfortable dealing with people at all levels
- Requires effective communications skills - both oral and written
- Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style as you will be part of a wider team
- Preferred that the incumbent is familiar with basic procurement and quality principles, procedures, and techniques
- Required to be able to prioritize work in a dynamic environment

Local travel to visit suppliers will be required.
