Technical Assistant

Duties/Pligte

The tasks will include (but will not be limited to:
**General administration**:
Acting as technical assistant within the histology domain with the responsibilities and accountabilities that are required of the post.

Attending and representation at meetings in the capacity mentioned above.

Pro-actively managing the day-to-day technical aspects pertaining to the functionality of the histology laboratories.

Assisting with the general maintenance and cleaning of the histology laboratories and related spaces.

**Assistance with technical services**:
Supporting the undergraduate and postgraduate training¿ in the histology laboratories.

Providing technical support to the histology laboratories¿.

Performing standard and specialised microscopy services, including immunocytochemistry.

Performing image scanning and analysis¿.

Providing histology slides for research and teaching¿.

Ensuring that legal and ethical requirements for laboratories are adhered to.

Ensuring that Health and Safety Standards are adhered to in the workplace.

Ensuring that proper documentation is on file as per requirements.

Monitoring and timeously reporting on the use of consumables and equipment.

Ensuring best practice in terms of waste management.

Hulpverlening met die algemene instandhouding en skoonmaak van die histologie laboratoria en verwante lokale.

**Hulpverlening met tegniese dienste**:
Ondersteun voorgraadse en nagraadse opleiding in die histologie labotoria.

Voorsien tegniese ondersteuning aan die histologie laboratoria.

Uitvoer van standaard en gespesialiseerde mikroskoop dienste, insluitend immunsitochemie.

Uitvoer van beeld skandering en analise.

Voorsien histologie skyfies vir opleiding
- en navorsingsdoeleindes.

Verseker dat wetlike en etiese vereistes van die laboratoria nagekom word.

Verseker dat gesondheids
- en veiligheidstandaarde in die werksplek nagekom word.

Verseker dat behoorlike dokumentasie volgens vereistes op lêer is.

Moniteer en rapporteer betyds oor die gebruik van verbruiksgoedere en toerusting.

Verseker beste praktyk met betrekking tot afvalbestuur.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

At least a BSc honours in anatomy or a related biomedical field.

The ability to organise, plan and prioritise independently and efficiently.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in a team.

Task-orientated, with an innovative approach.

The ability to maintain confidentiality.

The ability to maintain working hours.

Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical packages.

Minstens 'n BSc honneurs in anatomie of 'n verwante biomediese vakgebied.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

Experience of working in a tertiary environment and laboratory.

Basic knowledge of the National Health Act 61 of 2003 with regards to the use of human material for training and research.

Training in Occupational Health and Safety.

Experience in animal husbandry of small laboratory animal

Ervaring om in 'n tersiêre omgewing en laboratorium te werk.
- Basiese kennis van die Nasionale Gesondheidswet 61 van 2003 met betrekking tot die gebruik van menslike materiaal vir opleiding en navorsing.
- Opleiding in Beroepsgesondeid en -Veiligheid.
