By providing strong technical leadership, mentorship, and system-level thinking, the Tech Lead ensures that engineering decisions align with product goals and long-term scalability. Competencies: What You Bring

Technical Expertise:

- Serve as the primary technical authority in your pod, guiding decisions and ensuring alignment with the organisation’s goals and Engineering Strategy.
- Guide the pod's system architecture, ensuring it is maintainable, scalable, and balances innovation with long-term stability.
- Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to ensure your pod adopts relevant innovations.
- Be hands-on in development by contributing to code, reviewing pull requests, and guiding the deployment process, like a Senior Engineer would.
- Lead discussions to decompose high-level ideas into actionable, high-value deliverables.
- Ensure the pod is following best security practices by working with the security team.

Problem-Solving & Ownership:
Delivery Ownership
- Drive the pod’s technical delivery by creating and maintaining plans that mitigate risks and ensure predictable results.
- Own the quality of the software, ensuring systems are reliable, maintainable, and meet business requirements.
- Ensure the pod is balancing short-term goals with long-term system health through scale work (technical debt)
- Support the pod in estimations, prioritization, and defining strategies to eliminate dependencies.
- Collaborate with the product manager to align technical efforts with the roadmap and business priorities.

Collaboration & Communication:
Mentorship and Development
- Actively mentor and upskill team members to enhance their technical capabilities.
- Identify gaps in technical knowledge or expertise within the pod and provide opportunities for learning and growth.
- Create a culture of technical excellence, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide clear guidance to help the team navigate challenges while empowering individuals to take ownership.
- Support the engineering manager in improving pod health and performance.

Collaboration and Influence
- Work closely with other technical leaders to ensure consistency, knowledge sharing, and system alignment across pods.
- Act as a key decision-maker and tie-breaker for technical approaches within your pod.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and successes to stakeholders, ensuring visibility into the pod’s efforts.
- Influence and contribute to the wider engineering culture, setting standards for excellence and innovation.
