**purpose**

Assist with the general supervision of staff and day to day running of the Canteen to ensure that associates / customers are served, and health and safety standards are adhered to

**key responsibilities**

**Food Preparation**:

- Assist with the preparation of food (hot/cold meals and beverages) to ensure that associates have access to meals every day. The Canteen Supervisor should also ensure that there is enough stock on hand and oversee the made to order food preparation.
- Keep updated with the function board (catering required for functions) to ensure that there is enough stock on hand to prepare for functions and make the Canteen Manager aware of any shortfalls. Establish good relationships with suppliers and step in to place orders when necessary.
- Practice stock rotation to ensure FIFO (First In, First Out). Ensure all food storage areas (fridges, freezers, and stores) and kitchen production areas are all always kept neat and tidy. Daily food temperature checks to be completed and compiled.
**Maintenance**:

- Pack away stock, tidy up shelves, cleaning of the Canteen and reporting of breakage and damages to ensure the general upkeep and cleanliness of the Canteen and to ensure that health and safety standards are met.
- Ensure staff are using equipment correctly and cleaning it after use. Keeping up to date with cleaning schedules and rosters.

- Be the point of contact should there be any people issues with Canteen associates to maintain staff morale as well as to keep record of the attendance register to track attendance records. Be proactive with sales and service to ensure that the canteen is operating at its highest standards.

**requirements**

**Education**:

- Grade: 12
- Food & Beverage Management Qualification.

**Experience**:

- 3 Years’ Experience in a Catering-related Environment. (Preferably in a restaurant or hotel in a junior leadership role)
- Previous experience working on a POS system advantageous
- Previous experience with cash ups and banking advantageous
- Cooking and baking experience

**Knowledge & Skill**:

- Understanding food costs and how to calculate it.
- Basic computer literacy (outlook, word, excel)
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Ability to motivate and inspire a team
- Work well under pressure, be flexible and adapt to changes
- Creativity, problem solving and the ability to multitask
