Security Dog Handler

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Purpose**:
The Dog Handler is responsible for working with trained security dogs to protect people, property, and assets. The role includes patrolling designated areas, detecting suspicious activity, and responding to threats in coordination with the broader security team.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Patrol designated areas with a trained security dog to deter and detect unauthorized activities.
- Conduct regular checks of premises, buildings, vehicles, and restricted areas.
- Respond to alarms, suspicious behavior, and security breaches in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Handle and care for the assigned dog, including feeding, grooming, exercise, and basic health monitoring.
- Maintain a high level of control and obedience with the dog during all operations.
- Work in coordination with other security personnel and emergency services when needed.
- Record and report all incidents, observations, and activities in the required formats.
- Participate in regular training sessions with the dog to maintain performance and readiness.
- Enforce site-specific security protocols and procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness and condition of the dog’s kennel and equipment.

**Requirements**:

- Grade 10/12 Certificate (Matric preferred)
- PSIRA Registration (Minimum Grade C)
- Certified K9 Handler (with a valid dog handler certificate)
- Minimum of 1-2 years' experience as a dog handler in a security environment
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and during irregular hours (nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Good physical health and stamina
- Strong observational and communication skills
- No criminal record
