The Financial Operations Controller is an advanced level role in the Management Accountants job family. They operate at a national level in medium to advanced complexity environments.
Their primary objective is to execute on operational level management accounting functions. This includes but is not limited to the oversight of the financial operations of the company including the accounting and month-end.
What you'll be doing
Oversee the Monthly accounting function.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for month-end closure and monthly accounting for the biggest Business Units. This activity will include the processing and analysis of the accounting entries for the different business units or profit and cost centres. As part of the month end process, the Financial Controller will review revenue and costs per business unit and category against forecast and investigate variations to the forecast. Analyse variances and raise the necessary accounting entries to correct errors as listed below, although not limited
- Process the necessary cost and revenue accruals
- Process the necessary cost and revenue deferrals
Because this unit runs many projects in SAP, revenue recognition will be a function of the actual cost’s vs the planned costs and the planned revenue of the project as per IFRS 15. Therefore, the accountant will be responsible to run the Results Analysis (RA) to make sure revenue is correctly recognised on all Projects within a Business Unit of the Applications business. For annuity services, Applications Business runs contracts in SAP, which recognise revenue over the period of the contract as per IFRS 15. Therefore, the accountant will be responsible to run the Results Analysis (RA) to make sure revenue is correctly recognised on all contracts per Business Unit. Financial analysis and reporting The Financial Controller will be responsible for various reporting to facilitate the review of the performance of the various business units (profit and cost centres) that forms the Application Solutions Business. The reporting will include the variance analysis of actuals and forecast vs budget. Balance Sheet Recons The Financial Controller will be responsible for the balance sheet reconciliations for all the balance sheet general ledger accounts. Working Capital Management The Financial Controller will be responsible for management of working capital. Internal and external audit The Financial Controller will be responsible to assist with the Internal and External audits.
Commission reviews
The Financial Controller will be responsible to assist with the review and approve the commissions.
Behavioural skills
The Financial Controller need to be a process driven individual who is commercially astute, display good attention to detail, be able to work independently and produce work of high quality. The financial controller needs to be an assertive individual who display good negotiation and problem solving ability. He or she need to have good verbal and written communication skills and can work effectively in a team environment.
