The cook is responsible for efficiently carrying out the daily food preparation and cooking plans while adhering to all required hygiene and food safety procedures in order to deliver a quality service in the best interest of our residents, clients and company. The cook will utilize their team to ensure that the best possible service is given and that standards of hygiene and health and safety are never compromised.
Key Responsibilities

KPA 1: Food preparation and cooking
- Execute the daily production plan
- Correct use and understanding of standardised recipes
- Wash, clean, prepare and cook all food according to Company standards
- Have the necessary knowledge to prepare meals regarding correct colour, texture and nutritional values
- To supply a well presented plate of food to the residents and clients, that is on time and at the right temperature (warm)
- Special diet meal and supplements are correctly prepared and clearly marked with the residents name
- Has knowledge in managing wastage & leftover meals
- Correct use of equipment and items in kitchen
- Preparation done for next day
- Divide meals for the different departments according to the meal plan

KPA 2: Hygiene and Food safety
- Make use of the correct chopping boards
- Clean and sanitise work surfaces, equipment, utensils & pots
- Follow daily/weekly/monthly cleaning roster
- Correct use and maintenance of cleaning aids / kitchen utensils and equipment
- Handling and storing of food according to the correct food safety standards
- Adopt recycling principals
- Good personal hygiene and habits
- Wears full, clean uniform, name badge and closed, flat shoes

KPA 3: Client Service
- The employee is friendly, courteous and helpful towards residents, clients, guests
- Serving and distributing of the various meals as arranged per specific instruction
- Monitor client satisfaction and feedback on meals
- Seek to improve food production (with management) where necessary

KPA 4: Supervisory responsibilities in absence of management
- Complete the A3 attendance register daily
- Report any breakage or maintenance, issue or request
- Perform production meeting in absence of manager/ supervisor
- Completion of fridge temperature chart
- “Proebord” to be done in absence of Manager/Supervisor

KPA 5: Training and attendance
- The employee is on time at work
- The employee is interested in training and personal development
- Update Development log book
- Reports absences on time to management
- Abiding by the company’s rules always
- Attend all applicable training sessions
- Conducts on the job training with employees (new and existing) as and when needed
- Assist with ad-hoc tasks as and when needed
