Corporate Banking Associate

**Job Purpose**:

- Work as a junior relationship manager across corporates, financial institutions (including banks and non-bank financial institutions) and government/SOEs clients, assisting Parent Account Managers in a) business origination across Citi’s product set, and b) day-to-day relationship maintenance (including regular client contact and internal co-ordination).
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of the bank’s product offering and the major clients with the aim of identifying appropriate marketing opportunities and helping Citi sustainably win a larger share of the customer’s business.
- Develop strong relationships internally with key partners including Product, Risk, Legal and Compliance.

**Job Background**:

- The Corporate Bank, South Africa, is the relationship management team for the South African parented top tier local corporate clients in various sectors including metals and mining, telecoms, media and technology, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, consumer, general industrials, financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions, and Government and public sector.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Assist Parent Account Managers (PAMs) in managing the Corporate Banking relationships:

- Develop relationship with the clients’ head office teams as well as with key subsidiaries.
- Engage daily with clients to deliver Citi’s full product set (flow and episodic) across the globe.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the developments in the core product set to explore and refer opportunities.
- Maintain regular and frequent dialogue with product partners to deliver against the client agenda.
- Interact with Citi’s network around the globe to ensure activities and origination work streams are co-ordinated across the franchise.
- Developing clients plans, and executing on this strategy.
- Client Management including attending client meetings and presentations as appropriate in managing day to day relations.
- Oversee credit analysis activities of existing relationships including periodic review of financial results and statements to monitor operating performance, liquidity position and financial condition, peer analysis, identifying industry trends and outlook.
- Appropriately leverage interaction of regional / industry / product experts.
- Origination and execution of episodic and Corporate Finance transactions:

- Provide top notch complex credit and capital structure analysis both for internal and marketing purposes (financial modelling as well as credit and returns analysis).
- Produce best in class presentations to support the marketing effort.
- Coordinate the contribution of different partners within the firm.
- Lead the related internal approval processes and ensure timely approval of all credits and strict adherence to internal credit and compliance procedures.

The Associate will develop (i) in-depth understanding of the dynamics of the business, (ii) an understanding of clients’ priorities with the aim of identifying appropriate marketing opportunities and (iii) built strong relationships externally with clients and internally with key product, industry, risk and regional partners.

**Knowledge / Experience**:

- Prior experience in Corporate and Investment Banking (3 - 7 years).
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of a broad spectrum of products and how they meet client needs.
- Experience with various clients, capital markets products, derivatives, credit, cash management, trade, finance and securities.
- Credit trained, used to taking a lead role in establishing the creditworthiness of counterparties. Credit Officer, or potential to achieve CO status within 12 months, and longer-term potential to be in Senior Credit Officer (“SCO”) Pipeline.
- Experienced at client planning and coordinating input from multiple product areas.
- Strong knowledge of Accounting & Corporate Finance.
- Advanced Financial Modeling experience.

**Qualifications**:

- Banking background gained from a reputable firm where you will have gained first class training and development as a banker.
- Academic degree in Finance / Economics / Accounting / Business Administration / Law is preferable.
- Post graduate degree in field is preferable.
