**VACANCY**

**ASSISTANT TECHNICIAN**

**(1 year fixed-term contract)**

JOB PURPOSE This position provides assistance in the installation, repair, first-line maintenance of the Science Centre exhibits collection and displays in Sci-bono and other locations.

**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Attends to the first line and second line maintenance of exhibits.
- Checks that all exhibits are safe for use and reports faulty or unsafe exhibit for attendance immediately.
- Repair broken wires and do a detailed cleaning of exhibits using specific cleaning materials.
- Assist in the transport, installation, and maintenance of Exhibit.
- Assist in the administration work where necessary.
- Ensures that there is appropriate record and documentation for the maintenance of exhibits weekly.
- Prepare area for new and travelling exhibits.
- Research of exhibits when necessary
- Prototyping of new exhibits and ensuring they safe for use
- Housekeeping

**EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Grade 12/ Technical N3 in Mechanical or Electronics.

**EXPERIENCE**
- 3 years’ experience in woodwork/carpentry, experience/mechanical/electrical ,experience/polymers
- General maintenance and repair ( steel, Carpentry & electrical work)
- Workshop experience
- Manual Drivers Licence

**KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS**
- Woodwork skills or electrical or mechanical
- Basic steel work skills
- Working with and using hand tools, machines, powered equipment, and various materials
- Good Administration skills will be advantageous.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft, Excel and PowerPoint)

**Job Type**: Contract
Contract length: 12 months

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Johannesburg, Gauteng: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
