Our mission is to provide play, learning, and support to socially excluded families in East London, to encourage children's early years development, and to strengthen families and communities.

The role

The Treasurer

The overall role of a Treasurer at Hackney Playbus is to maintain an overview of the organisation's financial affairs with a focus on financial viability and ensure that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. At Hackney Playbus, the preparing and presenting of financial reports to the Board is delegated to the Co-Director of Strategy & Finance.

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee, duties of the treasurer include the following:

1. Liaising with the Co-Director about financial matters
2. Overseeing and approving budgets, accounts and financial statements
3. Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs
4. Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy
5. Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place
6. Advising on the financial implications of the organisation's strategic plans
7. Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy, if relevant, and that there is no conflict between any investment held and the aims and objects of the charity. Monitoring the organisation's investment activity and ensuring it is consistent with the organisation's policies and legal responsibilities.
8. Ensuring that the accounts are prepared, independently examined on an annual basis and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies, including the Charity Commission. Ensuring any recommendations made by the examiners are implemented.
9. Keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
10. Contributing to the fundraising strategy of the organisation
11. Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the annual general meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way
12. Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required
