Job Type: Learnership Contract as Candidate Attorney Working Days: Weekdays - note that as this learning opportunity is set to help you develop the disciplines that any successful attorney will need to master, you will not be working in a typical 8-5 manner.

Our client is open to appointing Candidate Attorneys who have both completed law school and those who are in the process of completing their LLB degree or a post-graduate qualification. Key Responsibilities:
1. Legal Support and Case Management:
- Ad Hoc Support: Supporting the Attorneys and Directors with ad hoc administrative, organisational and client relationship management and events requests.
- Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on legal issues, precedents, and case law to support the firm’s attorneys in providing top-tier legal advice.
- Drafting Legal Documents: Assist in drafting pleadings, contracts, affidavits, and other legal documents under the supervision of senior attorneys.
- Case Preparation: Assist in the preparation of cases, including compiling evidence, organising documents, and coordinating with relevant parties.
- Court Appearances: Attend court proceedings, consultations, and mediations as required, providing essential support to the legal team.
2. Client Interaction and Communication:
- Client Interaction: Engage with clients, gathering relevant information, and providing updates on case progress with professionalism and confidentiality.
- Ethical Conduct: Maintain the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality in all client interactions and legal work.
3. Productivity and Time Management:
- Case Management: Efficiently manage multiple cases, ensuring deadlines are met and tasks are prioritised according to urgency.
- Time Tracking: Accurately record billable hours and manage time effectively to meet client expectations and firm targets.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest developments in the legal field and apply this knowledge to your daily work.
4. Quality and Compliance:
- Adherence to Standards: Ensure that all work produced meets the firm’s rigorous quality standards and complies with South African legal requirements.
- Compliance and Ethical Practice: Adhere to all legal ethics and compliance standards set by the Legal Practice Council, ensuring that all actions align with legal requirements and the firm’s high standards.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Educational Qualification: LLB degree from an accredited South African university. Our client is open to candidates who have completed law school as well as those who are in the final stages of their LLB or post-graduate qualification and looking to start their two-year candidacy after graduation.
- Professional Requirements: Registered with the Legal Practice Council as a Candidate Attorney (or eligible for registration upon completion of studies).
- Drivers License and Vehicle: You have a valid dirver's license and reliable vehicle that you can use to travel to and from work, and between courts, client offices, and other locations of importance to perform your durties in this role.
- Previous Experience: While prior experience is advantageous, it is not a requirement. Strong academic records and a demonstrated commitment to a legal career are highly valued.
- Clear Record: No criminal record.
- Communication Skills in Afrikaans and English: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Afrikaans and English, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office and familiar with legal research tools.
