Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Contract Advisor with 10+ years of experience in oil, gas, and construction industries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing contracts, negotiating terms, and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations for large-scale projects. This position, based in Saudi Arabia, requires a proactive professional who will provide expert advice on contract-related matters and support in all stages of project execution, from negotiation to contract closure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert contract advisory services throughout the lifecycle of oil, gas, and construction projects, ensuring compliance with contractual terms, conditions, and applicable laws.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, including EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction), services, and subcontractor agreements for projects in the oil, gas, and construction sectors.
- Work closely with project managers, legal teams, and procurement departments to ensure that contracts are structured to meet the needs of the project, while protecting the companys interests.
- Ensure that contracts are compliant with local regulations in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern markets, as well as international standards and industry best practices.
- Provide guidance on risk management and mitigation strategies, identifying potential risks in contracts and advising on appropriate measures.
- Conduct thorough contract reviews and due diligence to ensure all terms, conditions, pricing, and obligations are clearly defined and legally binding.
- Assist in the negotiation of contract amendments, extensions, and variations, ensuring they are favorable to the project while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Monitor the execution of contracts to ensure all parties are adhering to agreed terms and obligations.
- Identify and address any potential breaches of contract and provide strategic advice on corrective actions, ensuring the protection of company assets and interests.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive contract documentation, ensuring accurate records of contracts, amendments, and correspondence.
- Prepare and present reports on contract performance, including key risks, issues, and progress to senior management and stakeholders.
- Advise senior leadership on contractual obligations, legal risks, and disputes, and provide recommendations for effective resolution.
- Work with external legal counsel to resolve any disputes or conflicts related to contracts, ensuring that the companys interests are protected.
- Provide training and support to project teams and other departments regarding contract management best practices and legal requirements.
- Act as the primary point of contact for contractual issues, collaborating with project managers, engineers, and external partners to resolve any contractual disputes or challenges.
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of contract-related paperwork, including change orders, progress payments, and variations.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory changes that could impact contract negotiations and execution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Law, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in contract management and advisory roles within oil, gas, and construction industries.
- Strong understanding of contract law, procurement, and negotiation techniques, with experience working on EPC contracts, subcontractor agreements, and services contracts.
- Knowledge of local and international contract laws and regulations, particularly within Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.
- Proven experience in managing complex contracts for large-scale oil, gas, and construction projects.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage with senior stakeholders, contractors, clients, and legal teams effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, with a keen ability to manage disputes and mitigate risks.
- High attention to detail, ensuring that all contract terms and conditions are clearly documented and adhered to.
- Ability to identify, assess, and address contractual risks and develop strategies to minimize those risks.
- Proficiency in contract management software and document control systems.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple contracts and deadlines simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing expert contract advice as needed.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements in the oil, gas, and construction industries.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills:
- Post-graduate qualifications in contract management, law, or related disciplines.
- Professional certifications such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or MRICS (Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
- Experience with international contracts, particularly in the oil and gas sector in the Middle East.
- Familiarity with FIDIC and other international contract frameworks.
- Previous experience in Saudi Arabia or the Middle East is an advantage.
