Mental Health Specialist

A leading organization in Knysna seeks 2 skilled Counsellors to enhance the emotional well-being of learners who have experienced trauma.

The successful candidates will play a vital role in promoting resilience through various services, including brief counselling and crisis containment sessions.

Salary:

R20k - R22k basic + travel allowance + cell allowance

Job Description:

The Counsellor will work closely with teachers and other stakeholders to identify and address trauma-related issues. This includes providing individual or group counselling and support to selected learners within their scope of practice. Additionally, they will deliver crisis containment sessions for learners in immediate distress, refer learners to appropriate support organizations when necessary, and facilitate large group awareness sessions as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Registered counsellor with an Honours degree in Psychology, a completed internship, and at least two years of counselling experience or Play Therapist with similar experience
• A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and possess strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Excellent interpersonal skills, empathy, and compassion, with the ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans with good communication skills, and a valid driver's license
