Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Chief Data Engineering Leader to join our team at E-Merge, driving the design and delivery of transformative business solutions using modern data platforms.

As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for integrating, storing, modelling, analysing, and reporting data while aligning solutions with business needs and optimizing trade-offs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement cloud data solutions tailored to client needs using AWS.
  • Develop cloud and data transformation strategies while optimizing FinOps considerations.
  • Lead the development of data modelling, ETL/ELT, data ingestion, validation, and quality processes.
  • Contribute to system design, feasibility studies, and proposals (RFPs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on data strategy, governance, and architecture.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Informatics. Equivalent experience with relevant certifications is accepted.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect Associate/Professional, or related certifications in ML, analytics, or engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years in data management, engineering, analytics, with experience as a Lead Architect, Lead Engineer, or Tech Lead.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and AWS or Azure.
  • Preferred certifications: TOGAF and relevant data certifications.

About the Opportunity:

This is a contract position based in Midrand, Johannesburg, offering a salary range of R1.2mil to R1.4mil CTC, negotiable based on experience.
