About the Job

The SQL DBA will play a pivotal role in maintaining, optimizing, and securing SQL database environments for our esteemed clients. This is a permanent role based in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Database Administration
    1. Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and recovery procedures.
    2. Monitor database performance and proactively optimize SQL queries and database structures for improved efficiency.
    3. Implement and maintain database security protocols to ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
    4. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner, minimizing downtime and ensuring maximum availability.
  2. Database Development Support
    1. Collaborate with development teams to design, implement, and optimize database schemas, stored procedures, and triggers.
    2. Assist in database design reviews and provide recommendations for performance enhancements and scalability.
  3. Data Integrity and Compliance
    1. Implement data integrity constraints and enforce data quality standards to ensure accuracy and consistency of financial data.
    2. Support regulatory compliance efforts by implementing auditing mechanisms and assisting in compliance audits as needed.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Certification in Microsoft SQL Server (e.g., MCSA: SQL Server, MCSE: Data Management and Analytics) or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with other RDBMS platforms such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with database replication, clustering, and high availability solutions.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based database services such as Azure SQL Database or Amazon RDS.
